Acer ICS update

It has been reported by the Acer Iconia Tab A100 and A500 users that they are being pushed with the Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich update notifications directly on their home screen which means that the update to the Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich is now available for download on your mobile phone straightaway. We all know what Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich operating system brings to us in terms of functions and user interface, and it’s the most hyped OS version of Android.

If you haven’t received any notification on your tablet about this update then please do have a manual check for the updates. You can go through Menu > About Tablet > Update and then hit Software Update to check updates are available on your device or not. I am sure you will get it but in the worst case you need to contact the Acer help line number to get it done. We advise you to download this update on to your tablet when you are connected to your Wi Fi as it could easily take 30 minutes of your time and importantly you should do a backup of your tablet before proceeding with the updates.

It has been spotted that many users have received minor updates after the main update to Android 4.0 ICS, we advise those users to wait for few days and then latter update it all at one go rather than going with individual updates every time.

Do let us know how do you feel when you have upgraded your tablet with the Android 4.0.3 ICS.

I don’t have Wifi, most of the time, when I open the browser. Get a ‘not connected’ message. Never happened on Honeycomb. Hope they send a patch SOON!

Acer a500 – Update to my last post. It now has to be shipped back to repair again as they say they can’t fix it over the phone. If you haven’t downloaded 4.0.3 I would strongly suggest that you not. I have gotten no updates since the download.

The first problem was that it competely locked up the tablet and just kept rebooting. It went to the factory and was reloaded with Honeycomb and, of course wiped out all my programs. It autoloaded 4.0.3 several days after it was returned and now the “touch” doesn’t work well. If you go to google and then try to select something it is difficult if not impossible. The same problem shows up in some of the programs but not quite as bad.

This update was obviously not tested by Acer and it is full of bugs. As I mentioned earlier, do not download it for at least a month and maybe they’ll get it straigtened out.

The new ICS email client v4.1 has a bug in its POP3 processing. If you have any mail in the inbox of the email app that is not on the POP3 server, when you try to download new messages, all those old messages will vanish into thin air. The POP3 processing worked correctly on honeycomb.

4.0.3 on a a500 is a mess. First download was so bad I had to send the unit in. It came back wiped clean and with 3.? Honeycomb. Auto downloaded 4.0.3 once again now the touch sensitivity is sacred up so half the time it doesn’t work especially on Google and the browser. Stay away from it for a month or so if you can.

ICS 4.0.3 upgrade has taken out my WIFI capability, so even if they fix it, I can’t download the patches now. Connecting to a WIFI network causes the machine to crash/reboot cycle about every 20 seconds. Disconnecting the WIFI from a network means it is at least functional

My A100 was honeycomb 3.2, then the first update was 3.2.1. Next, two kernel updates has been processed for 3.2.1. Finaly ICS update has been done. All of these updates performed in two days. ICS version is 4.0.3. Now, it seems that the updates are finalized. ICS is working fine.

I updated 2 days ago and received another update notification a day later which I also installed. This morning an additional notification, which I cancelled has popped up inviting me to update again. What is going on?
