Acer has a dream run with their Iconia tablet performing quite well in the international market. They are quickly launching tablets back to back and surprising thing is that we don’t see any Android smartphone launch from them until now. Acer for the Iconia Tab A100 they released the update after few days since their announcement and same thing might be expected as Acer has announced Android 4.0 ICS availability for its Tegra 2 powered Iconia Tab A500.
Acer in a press release said that this will start pushing the Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich update to the users in United States and Canada starting from April 27th and further on coming to various countries.
The good news is that the much awaited Indian users receives this update which is available via OTA and the file size of this update is 395 Mb. This update for the Indian users brings in the Android version as the Android 4.0.3 with several new features added like People app, performance enhancements and User interface changes. Also this would add various functions like Android Data usage which tells about the detailed data usage on your tablet.
This update is pulled to the users via OTA notification to their tablet and once the users have received this notification they can pull down the message and then click on Install to proceed with the upgrade. Please make sure that you have backed up everything on your tablet like content on the SD card as it will be lost during the upgrade. For the users who haven’t received any update notifications they can check whether update is available or not by going through the Settings > About Tablet > Software Update and then click on Check Now to proceed to know whether update is available or not. This update to the Indian users is available from May 1, 2012 but none of the users have sent us successful deployment, looks like they need to wait for couple of days. We advise users to proceed with the upgrade over Wi Fi, as it will take a lot of time via data connection that you have. Importantly you should back up various applications and files on your phone before you proceed with the upgrade as all the data would be lost in due course of update and you can’t recover them back.
It has always happened that some of the applications, widgets and functions might not work with this update with Android 4.0.3 and might crash and users shouldn’t be worried about it. Users will receive Android 4.0.3 upgrade which might be small and it will fix small bugs.
