Alcatel One Touch Idol Ultra 4.7-inch Android Jelly Bean Smartphone Hands-on at CES 2013

Alcatel has launched a series of One Touch phones, at the CES 2013, and apart from the One Touch Idol phone which was unveiled with the tag of being one of the lightest smartphones in the world, the One Touch Idol Ultra is the World’s slimmest smartphone, with a thickness of just 6.45 mm, breaking all the records after the Oppo Find 5 with the 6.9mm thickness beat the Droid Razr from Motorola which was 7.1mm thick. Being thin, this phone is quite light and looks excellent on hands, thanks to the 4.7-inch screen which makes it look totally like a killer smartphone when compared to the larger screens and thicker devices. The One Touch Idol Ultra looked a bit better than the One Touch Idol because of the specs, and the better looks.

The 4.7-inch screen has got a beautiful Super AMOLED display which does provide a good graphics output, when compared to the IPS display of the One Touch Idol device. A better processor, with a dual-core one having speeds of 1.2 GHz and supported by 1GB of RAM for the fast processing of the stuff happening in it. Alcatel did a great job with the interface, having a brushed version with the lock screen looking amazing with the shortcuts which all need to be pulled down to get activated, and the home screens, notification panel all look neat.

This is yet another phone coming in several colors and which could pull in a good number of buyers, only if the company has an affordable pricing in mind. The Quad-band GSM mobile has got a single SIM connectivity, and the storage is limited to 16GB in which the available memory is around 12GB out of the box. The Ultra is going to come with the Android 4.1.1 Jelly Bean version, and just like the Idol this one has a good battery indicator in the notification panel as it shows the time for which the phone would possibly run on the remaining battery, and with the capacity of 1850 mAh it showed 14 hours but we aren’t sure if it really would give that long usage with multiple apps running, or when we are connected to the Internet via the data network.

The Ultra has got a 8 megapixel camera with the flash and a decent image capturing, while the front camera although doesn’t have a good quality picture capturing, the video recording is at a good 720p HD quality. Similar to the One Touch Idol, the Idol Ultra doesn’t have the pricing and availability information available as the company is still in talks with the various International carriers, and its expected to come somewhere within the 1st quarter of 2013.
