Android 5.1 Memory Leak Has Been Fixed Internally, No Timeline For Update Yet : Google

Google has acknowledged there was a major memory leak issue in the Android 5.1 Lollipop. Google took no time in admitting the issue in the latest Android version. A Google project member said, “This has been fixed internally. We do not currently have a timeline for public release.”Another incremental update in the Android 5.1 (possibly Android 5.1.1) is expected anytime in the coming days.

Devices with Android 5.1 on board are experiencing app crashes, launcher issues, and overall poor experience. The reason for the above niggles was a memory leak happening in the background. The memory leak issue is not affecting all the devices and is limited to Google Nexus 5 and Google Nexus 6.

One user wrote on the issue tracker, “I woke up this morning and noticed that Gmail was laggy. I checked the RAM, and it reported 800 MB used. I cleared all open apps and it still the same. Restart [fixed] it, of course. This was the only fix that I was looking forward to in the 5.1 update.”

Google just began pushing out its first major update to its Material Designed OS. The Android 5.1 comes with the many new enhancements along with the bug fixes. While as of now this update is being pushed to the Nexus devices to start off with, this update will also be extended to the other smartphones and Android wear devices as well.
