Question : Hello Android Advices Team, I have been following your blog and want to gift my wife a new Smart Phone which should not be too big in terms of the form factor and should have decent hardware along with battery backup and the pricing is also important because we tend to change devices every year hence we don’t want to spend a lot of money on the handset.
Answer : Every month we see many different smart phones launched and we recommend quite a few depending on the budget and the features but recently Motorola launched the Moto G Smart Phone and its one of the finest smart phones we have tested.
Available at a price of just $199 which is the Global GSM Unlocked Model, the device is a master piece for the display, hardware and the price. Along with this a very important point to note is that its not a handset which is made in China because Motorola has started assembling all their devices in the US itself.
Competition : In the Budget Smart Phone category there are certainly many different options like the Sony Xperia M, Xperia L, Galaxy Core, Galaxy Grand, LG Optimus L9 2, Gionee Elife E6 etc all of which have some good and some bad around the same which you could read on the individual blog posts on this blog.
Cutting Edge Features : The reason we recommend the Moto G is that it comes with a very good display on the 4.5” screen along with a 326 PPI Pixel density. The device does not come with a 8Mp camera which most of the budget devices come up with these days but comes with a decent 5Mp camera which captures photos at 2592×1944 pixels and which does record videos at 720P. Check out the Moto G Camera Samples.
Spill Proof is another important point which not many users have idea about which comes packed in this device. If you want a smart phone which can withstand a little water then this device is for you because it comes with something like Nano Coating ensuring that the device won’t get damaged in case you drop some water on it by mistake. At this price point there is almost no handset from Tier 1 manufacturer offering this feature.
Regarding the OS which is something very important to many users, the device comes with Android 4.3 and the first time you boot it up, you get the Android 4.4.2 OTA Update which is very interesting. The back side of this device is made of plastic but gives you a feel of rubber which ensures that you won’t drop the device easily. We have made a detailed review on a 10 Factor list as you want watch in the video below.
Cons / Negative Factors : Personally we didn’t like the back cover of this device because it attracts a lot of finger snudges and makes the phone look bad within a few minutes of usage. The device does not stand out in terms of looks unlike the Moto X which gives you a premium look. Even though the device comes with a powerful processor, the 1Gb RAM does make you feel that the device becomes laggy if you install many large applications and if they are running in the background.
Overall if you are convinced with the Motorola Moto G, you should have a look at the links given below and buy one right away.
