The announcements and unveiling at the IFA 2013 is all done, and we had seen some of the best devices till date, where Samsung, Sony, Acer and few other brands made quite an impact for the coming months with their announcements about what is to come, and each one had something special to talk about. Check below for the best devices powered by the Android OS, announced / showcased at the IFA 2013 event.
We would list this on the top, although prior to this there were some other announcements done already. The Note 3 was announced with the 5.7 inch Full HD display, a 13-megapixel camera with 4K video recording, a lot of advancements to the S Pen, a faux leather backing, an option of Quad-core and Octa-core processors depending on the variant, and 3GB of RAM. Coming with the 3200 mAh battery, the Note 3 was one of the best unveiled devices at the IFA 2013 event. It’s going to be available with 9 color options for the back cover, and the device would be available from September 25th.
Samsung had announced the 2014 model of the Galaxy Note 10.1 version at the same event, and it is going to come with the 2560 x 1600 pixels of resolution, a Snapdragon 800 processor, 3GB RAM, support for the LTE connectivity, and a lot of S Pen enhancements just like for the Note 3. The large Note would be coming in 3 storage options – 16GB, 32GB and 64GB.
Sony’s best camera smartphone ever, with the 20.7 megapixel Sony G Lens powered camera which has got a 1080p video recording, features like the Timeshift burst which can capture 61 photos in just a couple seconds, and a lot of other camera-based features. Most of the other features are the same as in the Xperia Z, the company’s flagship device of the year, but the camera has got a lot better, from the 13-megapixel lens being changed to 20.7MP with what one would expect from a highly advanced phone camera.
LG had nothing much to talk about, except the LG G Pad with the 8.3 inch screen, as they had already announced the LG G2 smartphone earlier, and that was just showcased at the IFA event. There’s a 1.7GHz Quad-Core Qualcomm Snapdragon 600 processor internally with the 2GB RAM, and it’s a Full HD Plus display which comes with the resolution of 1920 x 1200 pixels. It’s a dual camera with 5MP rear and 1.3MP front lens, and the device has got a 4600 mAh battery and would run on the Android 4.2.2 Jelly Bean OS.
This 6-inch Full HD screen device from Acer is the first one actually to bring the 4K video recording and the device has got a 1080p Full HD display, Snapdragon 800 processor with 2GB RAM, and the camera that would capture the 4K videos, is a 13-megapixel one with the LED flash. The battery in the device is of 3300 mAh capacity, and the Liquid S2 would run the Android 4.2.2 Jelly Bean OS. We’d be able to see the device for sale from October 2013.
This is the 4th gen Transformer pad from Asus, which has got a 10.1 inch screen and internally there is a Tegra 4 CPU powering with the 2GB of RAM, while there are storage options of 32GB and 64 GB. The screen has got a good display with the resolution of 2560 x 1600 pixels and there’s a 31WH of battery in it, with 16WH in the dock too.
Asus MemOPad 8-inch & 10-inch Refresh, Fonepad 7 and Fonepad Note 6 2013
Asus had gone big with the several announcements, as it wasn’t just the 10.1-inch tablet but a lot other new gen. devices announced, including the MeMOPad 8-inch and 10-inch refresh, and the 2013 models for the Fonepad 7 and Fonepad Note 6 devices. Both the MemoPads have got the IPS LCD displays with 1280 x 800 resolution, and both of them have got a 1.6GHz quad-core processor and the batteries of 5070mAh for 10-inch one, 3950mAh for the 8-inch one.
The Fonepad 7 has got a similar display with the 1280 x 800 pixels resolution on the 7-inch screen, and there’s a Intel Atom Z2560; dual-core CPU which clocks at 1.6 GHz, the video recording is possible at 1080p resolution with the 5-megapixel camera. It has got a 3950mAh battery, and the device runs the Android 4.2 Jelly Bean OS.
The Note 6 device in the Fonepad series has a better screen with the Full HD 1080p display, and the processor too is a bit advanced one, with the Intel Atom Z2580 Dual-core chipset clocking at 2 GHz, while there is a 8-megapixel rear camera with the 1080p video recording.
Lenovo launched one of the sleek devices with the Vibe X having a 5-inch 1080p display having the latest Corning Gorilla Glass 3 protection, and there’s a 1.5 GHz quad-core MediaTek MT6589T processor with 2GB of RAM. The rear camera is a 13-megapixel one with the 1080p video recording, while we get to see a 5-megapixel wide angle front camera with 88-degree viewing. There’s 2000 mAh of battery in the device and there are 2 storage options – 16GB and 32GB. As of now, the bad news is that Lenovo has plans for a launch in China but there’s no details about the international availability.
Apart from the 5-inch device, Lenovo also announced a 7-inch tablet device, the S5000 with the HD display with 1280 x 800 pixels resolution and a 178-degree wide viewing angle. There’s a quad-core processor in this one too, but the RAM is limited to 1GB. Given the specs and details, it’s quite a good device for the pricing of 199 Euros for the 16GB Wi-Fi version, and 249 Euros for the 16GB Wi-Fi + SIM version.
Archos 101 XS 2, ChefPad and Archos 80 Xenon
Archos has unveiled three devices at the IFA 2013 event, and 101 XS 2 comes with a 10.1 inch IPS HD display and a quad-core processor with 2GB of RAM. There are magnetic hinges at the bottom, giving an option to attach several accessories, and this particular device comes with a keyboard dock accessory.
The ChefPad is a 9.7-inch tablet with the Dual-core processor at 1.6 GHz, running the Android 4.1 Jelly Bean and has got a 2-megapixel camera.
The third device from Archos was the 80 Xenon which has got an 8-inch display with the 1024 x 768 pixels resolution, and a Qualcomm Snapdragon chipset clocking at 1.2 GHz, with 1GB RAM and it too has got a 2MP camera on the rear side. This one too runs the Android 4.1 Jelly Bean OS.
Alcatel One Touch Series
The One Touch series from Alcatel got expanded after several launches at the CES 2013, as the company announced the Alcatel One Touch Idol Alpha, Alcatel One Touch Hero and the Alcatel One Touch 8HD with as always some impressive designs and decent specs, but the company hasn’t been able to target all the markets and make an impact which the brands listed above do.
It wasn’t just the Android devices that held the supremacy at the event, because these brands came up with some accessories and gadgets which caught a lot of eyes filled with anticipation, like the Sony QX10 and QX100 lens cameras which were the first ones to pair with the smartphone to make the phone screen a display for the lens, and Samsung came up with the Samsung Galaxy Gear smartwatch with some features that were never a part of any smartwatch launched by several other brands and startups. Sony too did their part by upgrading the smartwatch, by launching the Sony SmartWatch 2.
Qualcomm, the chip manufacturer came up with the Qualcomm Toq SmartWatch, which is claimed to have got a battery life which can beat any other smartwatch in the current time, thanks to the battery saving Mirasol screen.
