The Samsung Galaxy Gear launch was called as something revolutionary by Samsung and they mentioned about a shipment figure of around 800,000 units but the actual sales have been real low, at just around 50,000 units, and this small number of adoption is mainly because of the pricing, although the smartwatch isn’t really bad, and the blame could be on the competitive gadgets such as the Pebble smartwatch, Kreyos Meteor and such.
For those who wanted to get this with at least a little price drop, the pricing of Galaxy Gear is being taken down from $329.99 to $279.99 from November 29th, the Black Friday. The deal is going to be there for five days, but this is only for the Canadian market for now. As a matter of fact, Samsung is sending the Android 4.3 Jelly Bean update to the Galaxy S3 and the Galaxy Note II and that includes the support for the Galaxy Gear smartwatch. Samsung said the updates be sent would “starting on November 29th” but also said that the “timing varies by device and carrier/retailer.”
The Galaxy Gear is going to be available in various color options, and you could select that to match the smartphone you own, and the colors include Jet Black, Wild Orange, Oatmeal Beige and Mocha Gray. The various retailers and carriers include Bell, London Drugs, Rogers, TELUS, WIND Mobile, Videotron, Samsung Experience Stores, Tbooth wireless, The Source, and WIRELESSWAVE.
This promotion should be good for only those who wanted to have their hands on the Gear soon, because we are sure the price drop would be more significant before the CES 2014 as the next gen Galaxy Gear is expected somewhere around that time.
The specifications included in the Galaxy Gear include a 1.63-inch AMOLED touchscreen, and there’s a 1.9-megapixel camera with the BSI sensor on the strap. The resolution on the square display is 320 x 320 pixels, and the other stuff packed in is 512 MB RAM, 315 mAh battery.
