Coby MID8065-8 is an 8-inch Android tablet introduced by the company at the CES 2013 event, where there were several tablet devices launched by the company and all are the entry-level ones with some decent specifications and very affordable price range although the exact pricing was not yet fixed. The 8-inch screen looks pretty good, bettering the 7-inch version MID7065-8 tablet from Coby, and it has got a screen resolution of 1024 x 768 pixels while the tablet looks classic with the design too. There are many upgrades from the earlier versions of tablets from Coby, both internally and externally.
The MID8065-8 is internally powered by the 1.2GHz Cortex A9 dual-core processor which is backed by 1GB of RAM for the seamless multitasking and handling heavy app usage. The internal storage included in the tablet is 8GB and this can be expanded to 32GB using a MicroSD card whose slot is given on the side panel. Though the great display, the storage space can be used to store some high-quality content and this can be reproduced into the larger screens using the Mini-HDMI connectivity.
The tablet device has got two cameras in itself – the Front camera which is of 0.3 megapixel quality and the rear one having a 2-megapixel lens. The front camera is placed on the top right side beside the display, and that sometimes would not give a good image because of the improper placement. The side panel has got the MicroUSB port, a Reset slot and the DC-in charger slot just beside the Mini-HDMI port. The speaker grills on the other side panel look totally neat with the flat metal shining with the speaker holes.
In the demo unit we got to check out, the Google Play and the several pre-installed Google apps were not present but according to the company, the tablet would come with everything included when its actually shipped. The OS in the tablet is Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich and the interface is pretty basic and similar to most of the other tablet OS interfaces based on Android. The connectivity options included in the tablet are Wi-Fi, Bluetooth 2.1 but there is no SIM slot and so, no data network connectivity.
Coby is planning to launch the MID8065-8 along with the 7-inch and 10-inch variant devices in a couple of months from now, and of the three this 8-inch version looked neat and decent, and although we are not informed about the exact pricing, it is expected to come in somewhere around the $200 price tag.
