Galaxy S3 Green LogoWith Jellybean 4.1 nearing its roll out on the latest SAMSUNG Galaxy S III GT I9300 device, it seems like most of the users are disappointed with one of the feature which doesn’t find place in the device. Yes you have caught it right, it’s the USB Mass Storage Mode (UMS). So, to keep things simple, we will be guiding you in the due course of this article on how you can easily infuse this option in your next generation Galaxy S III. In place of UMS option, users will have to make use of MTP which is also called as Media Transfer Protocol.

There are their own advantages of both these modes, but then for most of the users it’s like compatibility versus the preference. One of the major drawbacks is that not all the operating systems are compatible with the MTP and without the third party tools, things can only get messed up. All thanks to the XDA developer which has come up with this standalone application which can be applied to all the phones of Samsung Galaxy S3. So, for all those who wanted to get rid of the instructions of MTP, can proceed to follow the instructions mentioned in this tutorial.

  1. I can’t help but be a little rude: what the f**** is the right answer for this problem now?
I’m done hearing anything else… I wanna hear the solution, so angry.

  2. SG3- ROOTED,SU,BB, & UMS installed… Still crap! Would a new OS solve issue??
I should not have to fiddle around to make work!! what junk.

  3. Galaxy s III out of the box, just want to put some tunes on it and I get this crap. The iPhone was a hassle too cos you have to authorize a specific computer. I worked around that using the sync from playlist option but on the Galaxy S III (which is meant to be the biggest baddest mofo out there) I have to go to nerd forums and download shit. Fuck this!

  4. so… everyone (including myself) is getting the same damn error. I dont want to root my phone. is there another option? is there a fix in the works for this?

  5. I am not a tech geek. I don’t “root” phones, whatever that is. I simply deletd photos that I need to recover. All recovery tools require UMS mode, and I have downloaded the apk and tried enabling UMS but I get the same error message every time:

***Could not get root privilages, external SD card is being accessed or other error. I/O Exception***

Does anyone have an answer on how to fix this please?? THANKS!!!!!!!

  6. Requires Root access!

  7. Will this work on the Samsung Galaxy Note GT-N7000 ? Mine is rooted.

  8. DONT DOWNLOAD ITSA FAKE! (need root always for this type of commands)
dont be fooled there is no app or update or anything available to do this whitout rooting!
U NEED TO ROOT TO DO THIS!
BEWARE! im not sure what this software does do….but it aint ums!

  9. I’m getting the same error as everyone else “Could not get root privileges, external SD card is being accessed or other error. I/O Exception”. I hope this is fixed soon. I do NOT want to root my phone.

  10. Turns out that you do need root access.

  11. I also have an S3 and get the smae error: “Could not get root privilages, external SD card is being accessed or other error. I/O Exception”

  12. I had the USB storage problem with my Galaxy Note using Windows 7 but I’ve been using the Windows 8 Release Preview for the last few days and USB mass storage is once again available just like it used to be before Android 4.0.4. Great, I can once again update my website’s home page without having to get out of bed!

  13. Now I feel like an idiot because I know I must be missing something simple. I download SGS3 Easy UMS but I can’t copy the APK file to my device because it I can’t use it as a Mass Storage device. It seems to be a circular problem so I know there is something I am not seeing.

    • ohh thank goodness someone else who doesnt know how to copy the file to the SG3 , i dont know either ???

    • Whats the point of this feedback no-one is helping. I’m trying to come over from the iPhone, got a nice SGS3 but what a POS this android nonsense is. My 3s knocks spots off android. Nothing works and nobody helps.
Looks like i’m turning into a fan-boy…..for the iPhone.

      • So you changed from a closed Apple environment to an open Android environment and find that learning some mildly technical stuff is too hard for you? Well, boo-f’n-hoo. Maybe you should stick with Apple since “everything works” as you cannot do anything/run anything that isn’t sanctioned by Apple Inc. That is, unless you jailbreak your phone which would require at least some (little) techincal competence.

You know, you could just do this the Apple way and submit to the fact that you can’t use it as USB mass storage and go on with your life convincing yourself that it wasn’t what you really needed anyway. Or then you can bite your lip and actually try to learn to do some mildly tech.stuff without starting to bitch once the first (easily solvable) problem arises.

        I hate fanboys.

  14. Can someone tell me if root is needed?

If it’s required will kies still work? Will it break future updates on the phone?

    Thanks

  15. Please help with me for ums

  16. It needed root so i rooted my phone but it doesn’t work even now it says “could not recognize mounted external storage (maybe busybox not installed?)”

  17. So you seriously say to enable USB mass storage on the device first you copy a file to the device via USB mass storage? WTF

  18. When I press UMS mode it seems to be working (I get the confirming message) but nothing changes. I can still see my external SD card in the device, it doesn’t mount as a USB mass storage.
Does anyone know what to do? Thanks!

  19. I also have a galaxy s3 just out of the box and when I press “UMS Mode” I get “Could not get root privilages, external SD card is being accessed or other error. I/O Exception”

  20. requires root for the internal storage…….. How now?>

  21. this is for external, how i get internal memory?

  22. When selecting any of the options (UMS, Mount Card, or MTP), it says “could not get root privileges”.  In this article it says that no rooting is needed, but it appears there might be.  Is this just because I have not updated with the ICS 4.0.4 firmware?

  23. I have a galaxy s3 just out of the box and when I press “UMS Mode” I get “Could not get root privilages, external SD card is being accessed or other error. I/O Exception”

  24. My S3  still requires me to root the phone when I’m using the software to mount the micro SD card :

  25. Thanks for the tutorial
    they always best…
