USB Connected LogoFor all those who has recently purchased an Android smart phone and would like to know on how you can enable the USB storage right on your Android device then we will help you to do the same which we will see in the due course of this article. Please note that we will be seeing on how you can do the same in the Samsung Galaxy S2 GT I9100 and will  be similar for all other Android devices too. We at androidadvices ensure that every single thing is being covered and if you feel that anything is left out then you can always make sue of Comments section to express your thoughts on the same as we will ensure that we will try to covert eh same on this site.

Please note that this process is one of the simple process and doesn’t require you to either download any special application or even need to tweak your Phone to do the same. All you need to do is to just follow the simple and easy to understand instructions along with the screen shots which will guide you on how you can Enable USB Storage on your Android Device.

Procedure to Enable USB Storage on Android Devices:

  • First up from your Home screen of your phone you will have to click on the “Applications” and once you get into the same you need to find an option called “Settings”, select the same as shown in the below screen shot.

Settings

  • Once you get into the Settings, you will now have to tap on the option of “Wireless and Network” as shown in the below screen shot for your convenience.

Wireless and Network Settings

  • Next up in the Wireless and Networks, you will find many options like Wi Fi Direct Settings, KIES via Wi Fi, Bluetooth Settings, Tethering, VPN Settings etc. All you need to choose is the “USB Utilities” option.

USB Utilities

  • Now, up next click on the tab which is “Connect Storage to PC” after which it will prompt you to attach the USB chord connecting to the computer and phone which you can see in the below screen shot,

Connect USB Storage

  • After this you will see a green robot showing the USB symbol along with an option of “Connect USB Storage”. Tap or select the same and then that’s it as this will connect the phone with the computer in the USB Mode turned ON.

So that’s it in this way you have now successfully enabled the USB Storage on your Android Device. Just in case if you were unable to enable the same do let us know as we will guide you to enable the same which is the unlikely case with most of the users. Last but not the least the biggest advantage is that you can use this just like a USB drive so as to accommodate all your data within the phone upon connecting with the USB cable and also most importantly this also allows you to explore the same as a physical drive which allows you to drag and drop the contents to / from the device.

  4. I think you ALL are looking in the wrong place. After reading this whole thread, there is incomplete information that isn’t being disclosed. Just to set the benchmark, I have:
Samsung Galaxy S-II (Model sph-d710bst, base GT-i9100G version, Android ICS 4.0.4)
    Provider: Boost Mobile
    Network: Sprint CDMA/WiMax
    Hardware Version: D710.10
    Build#:IMM76I.FL24
    Kernel Ver.: 3.0.15.981989
PRL:61009 (if this applies to Unlimited Monthly Customers)
Purchased: 2.12.13, in White Plains, NY
    Activated by: SprintNextel PCS
    Root Status: None/Stock ROM
These details are crucial to understanding whether or not a CARRIER has imposed limitations on a service or phone ability, such as USB mass storage. I heard from multiple sites, such as androidforums, sprintusers, and even xda developers that this process ( I mean activating USB mass storage on a Epic 4G touch model with -d710 as its model suffix) is next to IMPOSSIBLE. All this chatter is making my head spin. Mr. Neela, as I have been to a number of sites saying this, you should focus on a workaround for all of us who have this issue. That means software that can help us and not leave us running (or typing)around in circles. My version of the S2, based on the information provided, does NOT have UMS capability. It was suggested by a random topic I found online to ‘root’ my device to install an app that will allow the UMS to function. Issue #1-For one program, no.
#2-Rooting a device disables support for all stock services (Google Play, Updates, and a lot of apps derived from that source) Sure there are other markets that cater to ‘superusers’, but believe me, it’s not worth it.
#3-I give this advice based on what I am told by live people who have done and regretted doing this. It’s not for everyone.
I know this is a mouthful, but this thread is giving me eyestrain.
Any reply I will look at eagerly.

There isn’t a usb utilities in the Wireless and Networks section. If you could help me further that would be great. Until then I’ll just fiddle with the phone to see if I can find it on my own.

  8. I was having a similar problem. It ended up being the cable, much like Josephine commented. Used a different cable and it auto connected right up for me.

  12. Remove your USB Cable and perform below steps:

Go to “Settings” –> “Applications” –> “Wireless and Network” –> “USB Utilities” –> Click on “Connect Storage to PC”

That’s it. Now connect USB cable and you will be connected in USB Mass Storage mode,

  13. All the comments here appear to relate to connection to a computer and I have no problem with this either by cable or wire3less. The problem I have is connecting my samsung galaxy s2 to a USB flash drive. I have the correct data cable and as soon as it is plugged in it should show up in the top panel. It does on my mates same phone but not on mine. Have tried all the obvious things as suggested but no luck. Any help would be appreciated. My phone dtails are: Model GT-19100T
    Android Version 2.3.6
    Baseband Version 19100TDVKJ1
    Kernel version 2.6.35.7-I9100TDVLB1-CL957836

    Build Number Gingerbread.DVLB1

  14. on my galaxy ace there isn’t an option for USB utilities. What should I do?

  15. My Samsung Galaxy S does not have the USB utilities in the Wireless and Network section. Why?

  16. after i plug in my usb cable nothing pop out, just common charging

  17. Does anyone else notice that whenever someone comments asking what to do because in older versions of android there is NO USB UTILITIES option and asks NEAL what to do he makes some sort of no sense remark or AVOIDS the question. If you don’t know what the hell your talking about don’t make these kind of posts, you know, TECHNICAL stuff. THANK YOU!

  18. for those of you still srtuggling with this…just plug in your USB(gotta be connected to the computer first) to your phone, it will make the default sound for a detected connection…pull down the white menu bar on top…and push on manage usb connection…done

  19. MY SAMSUNG GALAXY ACE PLUS DOESN’T HAVE USB ULITITY!WHAT SHOULD I DO?

  20. there is no reply after clicking on CONNECT TO PC . iam unable to connect usb to sony tv with data cod of monte with samsung 6102

  21. Ok, update.

My cable was the problem — my home cable works fine at my work computer. It automatically connects and pulls up the green robot, and the Verizon stuff auto-installs (after confirmation popup) just like it should.

So…either this cable is busted or was designed only to be a USB power cable. I don’t recall it being described as such when I bought it, so be careful when you order such.

  22. Ya know what, I am using a different USB cable, one that came with a wall plug for charging. I wonder if it is a stripped USB cable that only passes through the power.

I will test that theory. Maybe there are such cables, or maybe this is a broken one, or maybe it’s a broken one where the USB power works so they sold it to the wall socket company. However, that was through Amazon and were two separate products, so it should function as a normal USB cable. Still, it might be broken.

Or maybe I did the equivalent on the phone of “Nah, don’t connect, and never ask me again” and don’t remember it.
