OK. It may be a stock release. But its LOCKED to someone’s network.
It is asking me for a SIM Network Unlock Code.
The phone was well UNLOCKED on 4.0.3.
This is not a function of the SIM Card but the firmware has been locked to the originating network.
AND….Galaxy SIM Unlock apk over on XDA forums does not appear to work.

These samsung models are so confusing. Now mine is a S2 GT-i9100 and i upgraded and it worked.
would like to know if i9100g is the same as GR-i9100
Also there has been an intimation that there is an upgrade to this version as well however the files were not available on that post. Any idea when we could get a revised version which corrects the extreme battery drain?

I have upgraded successfully. I was disappointed that this version does not contain all the languages for the operating system use, in particular Chinese Simplified.
Is there anybody or any version that will allow me to change the phone to operate natively in Chinese Simplified ? I have downloaded the language packs for the keyboard but this is not what i want.

The phone was on 4.0.3 ICS before , also without Chinese language in selectable list of languages.
I have seen versions of this phone locally with version 4.0.4 that did have the Chinese support built-in.
Must I now downgrade to 4.0.4 (if I can find the firmware that includes English as well as the Chinese Simplified language support)???
    And then upgrade to Jellybean?
There is no Samsung local upgrade (South Africa) available for OTA upgrade to Jellybean (and probably will not allow me to upgrade as I am already on Jellybean)
    Please anybody can help?
    Thanks in advance

you will need to manually apply the update

      • Nic Tango

        March 13, 2013 at 9:11 pm

Thanks, I have done the upgrade manually using ODIN.
It is working fine. As said before this version of firmware do not include the Chinese simplified language as a selectable in Language and input under Settings (My Galaxy S3 with 4.1.2 includes both Simplified as Traditional Chinese as optional system languages).
I am unclear what I must update manually, can you be more specific Pradeep?
Or maybe I must ask which download I must use that will include the Chinese versions as part of the firmware upgrade .
Some link to a repository containg firmwares and the filename of correct version will be most helpful if anybody can inform me.
        Thanks

I would appreciate that, this fact be mentioned here so that, the members are well aware of the risk of being disconnected with KIES. Now will Mr. Pradeep give us CSC details and how to update it to specific India?

I have upgraded this and find it very nice. however…
    1. the scrolling does not seem to be faster than the ics as mentioned in the review
    2. the smart stay screen feture does not function. i do get the icon (eye) blinking on the status bar but the screen goes off even if i am looking at the screen.

One clarification i needed, do i need to only clear the partion cache while upgrading or do i have to do anything else as well? Mine is not a rooted phone

Neal, I am on XWLS8 now, and it is CWM rooted. When i connect to KIES it’s findung a new update (XWLSD). Can I update my via KIES to XWLSD? And do I have to factory reset and clear the cache after applying the update via KIES? Thank You!

How official this update is? Last time I updated from Gingerbread to “official” ICS the phone did not work properly and I had to go to Samsung service centre to get firmware reloaded.

if you have followed the steps then there is no way that you would have got the issues

        Dear Pradeep,

The last time I updated from Ginerbread to “official” ICS I could not sync with Kies and missed on official ICS updates, like from 4.0.3 to 4.0.4. Will Kies work with this update? Further, which one is latest? XWLS8 or XWLSD?

I updated to XWLSD everything seems fine and indeed a great software of course!
But I can’t synchronise with KIES. If it’s official software, it should synchronise with KIES, does it not?
