Earlier, we exclusively reported about Gionee Marathon M5 Plus passing through TENAA certification revealing the possible specifications of the device. Now, the company has officially launched the upper mid-range Gionee Marathon M5 Plus smartphone in China. The Marathon M5 Plus comes with upgraded specification and is the successor of Marathon M5 that released in India last month.
Coming to its specifications, the Marathon M5 Plus flaunts a 6-inch (1920×1080 pixels) full-HD AMOLED display with 368ppi as pixel density, 2.5D arc glass and Corning Gorilla Glass protection laid over top of it. The device comes equipped with MediaTek MT-6753 64-bit octa-core processor clocked at 1.3GHz coupled with Mali-T720 GPU and 3GB of RAM. It has 64GB of built-in storage that can be further expanded using a misroSD card slot upto 128GB.
On the photographic section, the smartphone sports a 13MP rear camera with PDAF, LED flash and a 5MP front-facing shooter to capture crisp selfie images. The device supports dual sim dual standby and includes connectivity options like 4G-LTE, VoLTE, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth 4.0, GPS/A-GPS and a USB Type-C 2.0 port. Like other Gionee devices, the M5 Plus also comes with Amigo features like AmiClone, AmigoPaper, Chameleon and few more added apps like Gionee Mailbox, Child Clone and Ami Locker.
The Marathon M5 Plus features all metal body and also looks premium in hand with the slim body profile. The device comes with a physical home button that also double’s up as a fingerprint sensor and can unlock the device in just 0.5 seconds. It is the first ever smartphone from Gionee that sports a physical home button with embedded fingerprint sensor. The earlier launched flagship Elife E8 also includes a fingerprint sensor but on the rear side below the camera module.
The handset comes backed by a 5020mAh battery that is rated to deliver upto 53 hours of talk time and upto 829 hours of standby time and is slightly smaller when compared to the Marathon M5 that sports a 6020mAh battery. The device also features Dual Charging chips technology for faster charging of the battery. It runs on Android 5.1 Lollipop based Amigo 3.1 UI out of the box.
Even with these specifications the smartphone measures just 8.4 mm thickness and weighs around 208 grams. The Marathon M5 Plus is priced at 2,499 Yuan (approx $385) and will be available for sale in China starting from December 25. As of now the company did not reveal any information about the availability of the smartphone in Indian markets, stay tuned for more updates.
