Gmail has been one consistent and best Mail client, and one of the best apps from Google for the Android phones. It includes the easiest ways to interact with people via emails, and the app has kept getting better, with the latest update having some neat improvements which enhance the way a user experiences it and takes advantage of these improvements.
The latest update in the Gmail App for both Android and iOS operating systems includes some enhancements especially in the attachments of the mail – Pictures, Videos and the previews of the same. Apart from this, the Gmail update brings along the option to swipe the message to the right or left to either delete the mail conversation or to archive it.
The changes from the previous version are dependent on the Android version that your phone has got. There are a few changes in the Gmail app for Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich and later versions, while the changes are different for the devices which have Android 2.2 Froyo and later versions till Gingerbread.
Here are the changes that you would notice in the updated Gmail app:
Attach Photos and Videos from within the Gmail App
Earlier it was a single option for attaching a file in the Gmail app, but now the updated version of the Gmail has got the special options of attaching images and videos while you are typing a new email using the app.
Attached Pictures in Larger View and Gallery
The pictures that you receive through the mail, now are arranged well and have larger thumbnails, while earlier it was the smaller thumbnails. The images now can be previewed together just like a Gallery, while earlier you would have to preview each image separately.
Swipe for Deleting and Archiving
Swiping was earlier of no use, but now the updated Gmail has an option of deleting and archiving the mails. Swipe a mail conversation to the right to delete it, while swiping to the left would archive the mail.
The update brings all of these changes for the two versions of Android:
Updates for the Android 4.0 and Later OS:
- Auto fits the message to the screen, and message can be zoomed
- Swipe the mail to archive or delete
- Option to attach pictures and videos directly from the Gmail app
- Photo previews for attachments, and larger thumbnails in mail
- Bug fixes and performance improvements
Updates for the Android 2.2 and up:
- New Labels API for 3rd-party app developers
- Performance improvements
The updated Gmail would come as an update on your Android phone in the Play Store automatically, or else you would have to search for the update manually as most of the times would have set the option of updating the apps only when Wi-Fi is turned on. You can manually search for the update by going to the My Apps section in the Play Store, and there you would see the update available for the Gmail app.
