What if Google came with a new phone with the latest Gingerbread in it in the latest Nexus S. If you own an earlier version of Google Android Nexus One device, then here’s great news for all of you as now today we will see on how you can install the latest Gingerbread 2.3 on your Nexus One, yes you have heard it right. Gingerbread on Google Nexus One. Though it is not official but since it is an open source device many builds are made un officially which can be installed in your device. So let’s quickly proceed and look on how you can install Gingerbread on Google’s Nexus One device. It is highly recommended to take necessary backup of all contacts, messages and other information which is stored in the device though the data in SD card will be safe and also most importantly please follow the steps carefully or else your phone may become unusable.
Procedure to Install Android 2.3 in Nexus One:
- First you will need to Download the Android 2.3 Gingerbread AOSP file and copy it to your Nexus One’s SD card.
- Now, read this step carefully, if you are at presently running on a stock Nexus One, then you will need custom recovery for flashing the Gingerbread build into your Nexus One. But for this you need to download Amon Ra’s Recovery and then you need to copy the same to /tools folder of your Android SDK directory. You can download the Android 2.3 SDK from here. Please note that if you already have custom recovery then directly you can proceed to recovery as mentioned after 2 steps below.
- Now simply you need to reboot the phone into the boot loader mode which can be achieved by first turning off the device, holding the trackball and then press the power button after which you need to connect the Nexus One with your computer. Make sure your hboot version is 35.0017 after the reboot.
- Now, key in the fastboot flash recovery xx where xx suggests the exact file name of the recovery image which is downloaded, including the extension name.
- Now you need to enter the recovery mode and need to choose boot loader option from the long list and then you need to select recovery option and then you need to Wipe data and cache from that list only so as to fasten up your device as all the cache system content which is not useful gets deleted. It is recommended to empty or wipe the cache contents
- Now you need to flash the gingerbread_passion.ctso.zip file which you have downloaded in the above step into your Nexus One.
After flashing you need to simply reboot. Bingo! There you go you have now successfully upgraded your Nexus One with the latest Android 2.3 Gingerbread version.
