India based HCL technologies have already running the high cost Me Tab X1 and Me Tab U1 Android tablet in the market. Intertingly they have more than 3 tablets in the market priced in between Rs 14000 till Rs 33,000. They already have a strong presence in laptops and desktop manufacturing and looks to explore the ever expanding tablet PC market.
HCL Y2 Android Tablet
HCL plans to launch another Android tablet which would be powered with Google’s latest mobile operating system called Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich. We expect the device to be with 7 inches form factor and HCL says that this tablet would debut in August 2012. The tablet called Y2 might be the code name and it would support both Wi Fi and 3G internet connectivity and thus making it among the few tablet which comes with both Wi Fi and 3G internet connectivity. The device is expected to board a specification of 1 Ghz ARM Cortex A8 processor along with 512 MB of RAM and this would come with access to HCL Me App Store where users can download the educational as well as the other Android applications. Along with that there is an access to Android Play Store as well to download thousands of apps, widgets and games for free and paid download as well.
It would be priced at Rs 15,000 but we are sure that this would be very high price for the tablet until and unless it has some of the best specifications. On the other side there are manufacturers who supply tablet well at $ 100 or $ 120 with same specifications of HCL Y2 tablet, even Amazon Kindle Fire 2 will be available at $ 150 or so. If its priced anything above Rs 10,000 it would marginally make any sales.
