How to Transfer Phone Contacts from Nokia to Android Mobile like Samsung Galaxy S

Nokia Android LogoGoing by the growth of Google’s Android and the sliding of mobile giant Nokia from its position , it seems that many of us are switching from Nokia to the latest Android Mobile phones. It’s evident as even i bought Samsung Galaxy S and was using Nokia N79 earlier. So, as soon as i thought of shifting from my Nokia N79 to the Android device, i was unable to move the contacts from my Nokia Phone to the Galaxy S but thankfully i have found a way out with which all contacts from your earlier Nokia device can be transferred easily to your new Android device. Not to worry, i will tell you in brief and in a simple manner, you need not be a techie to understand as even a normal person can understand this procedure. Before we proceed to transferring of contacts, you will have to install the latest versions of Nokia PC Suite, Samsung Kies software tool along with your old and new Android device with you with appropriate USB cables.

Procedure to transfer Nokia Contacts to Android device:

  • First you will need to connect your Nokia Phone with USB cable to the computer and need to open Nokia PC suite and select Contacts from the dashboard.

Nokia PC Suite

  • Now, once you see all contacts as shown below, you will need to select all Contacts, then proceed to click on File, Export and then save it in a CSV format on the desktop.

Nokia Contacts

  • Now, this was the last time you will open Nokia PC Suite if you plan to shift to Android completely and you need to proceed to connect your Samsung Galaxy S phone to computer via USB and need to Open Kies. Now, you may encounter with the problem of MTP error at this point of time while connecting your Galaxy S with computer. Don’t worry; you can easily fix MTP Application error on your Android device with the help of a simple video tutorial.
  • So, now as soon as you are done with fixing the dreaded error of MTP error then launch Kies for your Android device and proceed by clicking on Contacts icon.
  • After clicking on the Contacts icon, you will find a new page as shown below, just click on Open File

  • Now, select the CSV File from the list below which you have saved from the Nokia PC suite as shown below.

Open File

  • Once you select the CSV file, you will be asked to map the fields as shown below. Please note that Map the same fields like for Title, map only with Title, First name for First name and like wise as shown below. If you are unsure then its better to leave the option rather than selecting anything as that will basically mess up the contacts.

Field Mapping

  • If you wish to add any additional information details which you had in your Nokia phone like Fax, email address, website or fields which you were not able to match then open this in Excel and fill in the appropriate content in the columns.
  • Now, Click on  OK and you can now see a list of all your contacts as shown below. Just click on Transfer to Device tab and now you should be able to transfer all your imported contacts in to the Samsung Galaxy S.

Transfer contacts

Now, when you are done with performing above steps as mentioned, you can see that all of your contacts have been successfully transferred into your Android device from your Nokia device. Also, most importantly note that, after completely transferring the contacts into your Android device, first up take the backup of all the contacts which you have transferred from your Nokia to Android device so that if anything goes wrong with your Android device, you need not repeat this procedure to transfer all your contacts from Nokia to Android. So, this is it, you can now successfully enjoy all your contacts in your new Android device.

  1. Hi, who can halp how to transfer contacts, calendar etc from NOKIA E90 to SAMSUNG Nexus I9250. Kies doesn’t support this phone. I have all contacts with pictures….

  2. I just did the bluetooth way = simple.

dont bother messing with software or sync. i just did over 400 contacts from my nokia in contacts go to settings, manage, mark all, send business cards, via bluetooth, sending, bang on.
the sammy didnt even look like it had done anything so i just hit contacts on the phonebook icon of the s2 and there were automatically ordered in as if by magic, no bluetooth messages in the inbox just a whole complete phonebook automatically. the easiest thing ever. takes seconds

  3. Hi,

Thanks for this post, in my case it didn’t work (transferring from NOKIA e90 to SAMSUNG Galaxy S2). The simple procedure which I did and it was 100% successful is on NOKIA e90 I marked all the contacts and copy to SD Card. I removed the SD Card and install in Galaxy s2. I went to contact and import from SD Card. This is all it is. Because of these contacts I used to stick to Nokia.

  4. I saw this post and was surprised about all the methods given here to export contacts. I can see people are going through all the hassles of exporting and getting softwares and God knows what else. Instead, has anyone tried to send the contacts from your nokia to samsung using bluetooth?? I have a nokia 5800 and I just selected all the contacts, and sent them via bluetooth to my samsung galaxy s2, works like a charm, no hassles! took me 5 mins. All my contacts are there now!

  5. Worked a treat and without having to buy any software …… thanks so much.

  6. I’m no dummy but I can find “Open File” anywhere. I have a brand new Samsung Galaxy S2 with Android 2.3.3. When I go to Contacts on the phone I get Import/Export from SIM. There is no option to import from a file. When I browse from my computer using Kies air I can get to Contacts but there is no “Open File” button. I could only get as far as screenshot 3. Please help!

  7. I followed your instructions and got all my Nokia N72 contacts in to my new Samsung Galaxy SII smartphone. Thanks very much for this blog, its very useful!

  8. What is the easy way to transfer messages from Nokia N72 to Samsung Galaxy S2. Searched for this a lot, but everywhere its only about contacts. I would like to copy my precious messages to the new phone as well. Please help out. Thanks a bunch.

  9. This i have been searching for long time ..thanks a ton ….I did it thanks once again

  10. Kies won’t open *.csv files, only *.spb ones but thanks anyway :(

  11. great i am very happy for ur tip

  12. Thanks for the bluetooth tip guys! worked perfect!

The csv import on Kies didn’t accept my csv exported from pc suite dont knwo why..

  13. Thanks, this work 100% for me.. i m SORTED.. :) thnks again

  14. Great tutorial. But you can’t do this with Nokia Ovi Suite. I need to change back to Nokia PC Suite.

  15. When you have hundreds of contacts this trick will work fine, thanks for the detailed instructions! I just noticed that the CSV file Nokia PC Suite created used semi colons. For this reason Kies wouldn’t approve them and I used Word to replace them with commas.

  16. i agree with the lat guy, bluetooth takes 30 seconds…simples

  17. No need to do any of that

    if your symbian has Bluetooth

go to contacts, select all(options> select>select all), in options > send card > by bluetooth (to your galaxy/any android)

and no need to do anything in the galaxy, the phone book is already there =)

  18. No need to do this way.first jus copy the contacts in ur nokia phone to memory card…and put that card in galaxy s and in the contacts option u will have option like import/export…in that take import and we can do the copyin easily….

  19. thanks for the tip. need to choose the Kies field to synchronise with the Nokia fields before data can be copied.

  20. Use Nokia’s Mail for Exchange to sync your contacts to Gmail account and then back to your Android. Could not be simpler.

  21. thanks a bunch man, though i was abit too late considering its possibilities that i have to copy manually to my galaxy tab one by one for 60 namesT_T

  22. Sir, only the names got copied . the phone numbers did not get copied. Can you help me get the numbers copied?. thank you. JD

    • Dr K A Rasheed

Try by Syncin your Nokia first with outlook. Start kies with your Android connected. Again sync with outlook. It is done. Again sync with Google. Now every time you factory reset your Android, simply sync with your google acocout after getting connected. It takes 3 or 4 minutes to sync all your contacts

      • Dr K A Rasheed, Your method is most simple and easy. It was succesful for me. Thanks. However, when I synced with google, it flashed a message that the account used for syncing is the same as in the device, hence cannot proceed. If I use another account, will it proceed?

  23. Cool Info. Thanx :)
