How To Update Samsung Galaxy Ace GT S5830 to Gingerbread 2.3.3 Firmware
For all those who have recently purchased their Samsung Galaxy Ace phones have a reason to cheer as we will now guide you on how you can update Samsung Galaxy Ace with the latest Gingerbread 2.3.3 version. Please note that there are some issues which have been reported as this is the beta ROM but are minor issues. goto settings, look for the language icon, (a white box with probably letter A inside), then click the first option, now you will see the different languages.

Thanks a lot frnd. It worked like a charm!!. It is very much fast too. 3G works fine. The prob is with wifi. My workplace uses proxy (without authentication). In froyo 2.2, there was a setting for proxy server (wireless–>options–>advanced) and i was able to access internet. But in gingerbread, I am not able to find that setting. It would be really cool, if you can help with that also.

I came up with another problem
.. Whenever i am downloading the apps from the Android market few apps are directly getting stored in SD card. They are working fine soon after the installation, but when i switch off and on othe phone or connect and disconnect the phone to kies in my laptop.. all these apps are getting invisible on the screen but still able to see them in the SD card through Applications -> manage applications -> on SD card.. all those apps were greyed out. When i clicked on them i saw the option move to phone.. i tried moving to phone but it throwed me a popup saying “Failed to move application: Application not found”. Is this is a unique problem of mine..? Please help me guys..

@uday you can’t see the apps from Market place in your computer. There is a procedure for it to do so, easily you can’t extract the market apps!

I appreciate your patience in replying to our questions but I am not sure whether you excatly got my problem or not.. Let me rephrase my problem. I am able to see the apps in the market place and successfully downloaded and installed them and ran them on my mobile. Once i reboot (swithc off/on) my phone i am not able to see those downloaded apps in my phone, though they are displayed under SD card apps (and here all the apps are greyed out) there is a option for moving them to phone but even that didnt worked out.

@Pradeep: I didnt tried that option. I got the mobile with Android 2.2.1 later on i upgraded that to 2.3.3 gingerbread version as per the above steps. Shall i give a try re installing the firmware..???

Finally it worked for me..
I kept on trying unplugging data cable / switching off/ on by removing battery.. then finally it worked…
make sure u use “Odin_Multi_Downloader_v4.38″ it is mandatory… other versions flunk.

Honestly telling, i have installed gb on my phone, because after reading the above comments i do not find it good to install gb. There are a lot of bugs which many have faced. Still thanks for the nice tutorial. I also wanted to mention that for example if i brick my phone in any process and the phone is not able to boot, will its warranty be void. Can i send it to samsung then to fix it? Will they be able to fix it? Fast reply would be appreciated.

@rohan no, the warranty will not be voided in this case as the service centres can’t make out easily about on why phone has gone dead! yes you can tell samsung about but don’t mention that you were flashing the device and it got dead by on its own then the warranty will void!

Hi, loaded this update on and it came up in Russian or something.
Managed to get through the language settings and change back to English.
I now can’t attach to my wifi network, I can see the network, and have tried unsecure, wpa and wpa2 etc. Reset routers everything but no joy. It says trying to connect and trying to obtan IP but won’t connect.
I have tried friends and familys routers and still no joy
I could under the original install of Android.
Any help, failing that the procedure that you mention above on how to revert back to the original roms
Also I am looking for certain apps that I know are there on the Market, but can’t find them now i.e. the Trainline Tickets could it just be not compatible with my phone so not shown or is ths rom since it was in Russian originally, not showing apps for the UK

I’m now getting regular random shutdowns and want to return back to 2.2 that came with the phone as I am getting a replacement sent to me on Saturday.
Its pretty obvious thats its been upgraded and dont want to have to pay when they take it back to the factory and found out that I had upgraded with a Beta release.

Reset APN as per original settings I recoded from 2.2, internet and 3G are fine as is the wifi connection. As the USB drivers for the phone are included in the Samsung Kies application it may be useful to ensure that this is installed as part of the PC preparation.Once again many thanks for all your efforts, you have made a lot of Samsung Ace owners very pleased.

I desperately want to upgrade to GB, as I have heard there is better power management in it and faster UI..
The only thing which keeps me from using this tutorial is the fear of bricking my phone..
as I got this phone after much pains (I am student..and convincing dad isnt dat easy you see

i just realiced that it stops conecting and desconecting if i use only 2G mode only, but i still need 3G mode D:
juz visit the operator’s gallery to get the settings!
the settings are ok, i did change them for my carrier
internet is working (both 2g and 3g) but it desconects every one minute when i turn into 3G

I just upgraded my original Ace’s Froyo 2.2 to 2.3.3 xxKP9 using Odin 4.38 and one-click rooting using 5830_2.3.3KP9 and the result was disastrous.
Right after the re-Boot, I received a phonecall and put the phone to my ears, but could not hear anything. I thought I got the recurring wax build up on my left ear and put the phone to my right ear hole. Still no sound. I was almost certain that my ear holes were completely flocked by my significant others the night before, and my suspicion about to be proven right.
Then I call it from a landline and still same result. But when I receive calls and turn on the speakerphone, the sound came out fine. Samething with Bluetooth headset is also okay. I am now almost gone bald from pulling my already thinning hair trying to solve this problem. I feel so down I almost cut my own **** off.
Luckily, my conscience kick me in the groin and an idea came… I did a reset, hard reset, and reboot the phone, but heaven forbid… the cyrillic character came back and I still got no sound from the front speaker.
Any of you kind enough to want to help a brother? What should I do (beside cutting my *** off) after the stupidity of upgrading from Froyo to GingerBoner? I really appreciate your knwoledge and wisdom on this matter.
P.s. I am downloading 2.3.4 KPH and 2.2.1 KC1 just in case, I will have to re-flash later)

Yes you can update witht the same after following the instructions!
Its done. Got Gingerbread 2.3.3. on my phote, wipe’d it and still got the Problem. Reboot the phone and i got Sound and Tones. Got a Call oder call somebody for myself and there is a low noise in the front speaker. Only another reboot solve it. Headset and freespeaking mode works fine…
Will upgrade to Gingerbread fix the common problem with the Galaxy Ace locking up (as if it auto shutdown) when left alone with Wifi connected? I have this problem now with Froyo. Here’s a thread in Android forum discussing the problem:

Hi! I just updated my friend’s Ace to Gingerbread. Everything is fine except that the display screen likes to rotate to landscape position and the keyboard is missing. Example when I wan to hook up a wireless network, it does not pop out the keyboard for me to key in WEP. Please help!!

no, warranty will not get void till you don’t root your phone and upgrading the firmware is not equal to rooting. So, don’t worry!

Thanks! Just updated my Galaxy Ace from 2.2 to 2.3.3 and it works superb! It is alot faster than 2.2 and very smooth. When phone first starts up after upgrade, it starts in Russian language, but navigate to Locale option in settings and reset to English. I Reset the language and my 3G settings manually and I have no problems, it is brilliant. Great instructions too! Never done anything like this before and it was easy! Thanks!

Hi Pete, you need to get settings from your network provider. They can usually be found on the operators website. It canusually be sent to your phone as a text message or you may have to enter the settings manually. I am on Vodafone UK and the settings are on the support page of the website. Hope that helps.

I have the same problem like most of us have. I successfully upgrade my Froyo to Gingerbread but my Ace cannot detect any 3G/HSDPA connection eventhough I had turned on my data network….!!! Please….!!! Is there any way that I can solve this problem?

you can directly follow the procedure to install the froyo version for your Ace. Have you checked by configuring the apn settings correctly?

Neal, Just a quick question. I have upgraded my Galaxy Ace to 2.3.4 and it works very well, however I cannot see any difference from 2.3.3. I wanted to know if I can still update via Kies when Samsung launch official 2.3.3 update for Ace as when I connect to Kies at the moment it says “This version of the device cannot be updated” I want the official update when it is released but I think now I cannot get it. I am in UK by the way, if that helps.

i am trying to update my Galaxy S to 2.3.4 but i have a strange problem: i cannot connect the phone to PC in download mode although it connects with no problem when it is opened normally. i have installed the latest usb driver for galaxy s but still doesn’t work. when it is in dw mode i went to control panel and tried to update the driver but it says that i have the latest version.

worth to mention that i was using z4mod to convert the system files from rfs to ext2. before trying to make the update i used z4mod to convert the system files back to rfs and everything seemed to be ok but just now i realized that actually the files are still ext2. i’ve tried again several times but the files don’t change back to rfs although i don’t receive any error, everything seems to be ok – it even reboots. could this be the problem for not being able to connect the phone to pc in download mode? if so, how can i convert the files back to rfs considering that z4mod does not work?
you cant convert the file system as of now but there is a different method to convert the same!

Hi Guys i do not see to well and I need the message Text to be larger or even better all the fonts to be slightly larger as I am strgglig to read it. My previous phone was a F480 which used the volume keys to increase the font size. When i connect my ace to the computer in download mode, my odin (v4.38) box does not flash yellow. then when i check if my ace is connected, it says “The drivers for this device are not installed. (Code 28)”

Thanks for the wonderful article. I upgraded my Galaxy Ace from Froyo 2.2 to GB 2.3. All seems to be fine (so far), except that sms recipients is reduced to 10 from 20 (Froyo allowed 20). Is there a workaround for this?
there is no issue reported like this, you need to clear the cache and try!

Tried that, but still restricts to 10 recipients. Cannot add more than 10 in sms.
Also another observation is that in Settings->Applications->Manage Applictions, under All tab, whenever I force stop any application, it is still retained in the list displayed. In Froyo, it removed the application listed after force closing. So now in this one, everytime I have scroll thro’ the entire big list and check which app is still running and force close that.
Also it uses more RAM. In Froyo, I could manage with 150 MB of RAM usage (remaining free), but in this one, it’s always 180 MB min. Is this also known with GB 2.3.3?

After upgrading to Gingerbread, first, cann´t connect to my provider, after getting the info for the APN (APN/ba.amx, MCC/714, MNC/03), i CAN connect to the carrier network, but just in 2G, as long as I unmark “Just 2G”, the cell change to 3G, but just for a few seconds, and right away change to “Emergency Calls Only”, except of this problem, everything is working fine. The info is as:

Android version: 2.3.3
Baseband ver.: S5830XXKP8
Kernel ver.: 2.6.65.7-perf-CL143019

in my samsung galaxy ace, i have 18 apps stored in phone memory which amounts to approximately 61.6 mb.. these apps can not be transferred to sd card.. but the phone shows only 19mb phone memory free out of 180 mb internal storage.. Also now a message appears that SMS memory is also getting full.. i hardly have 70 SMSs in the device… how is this possible?? how can i get more phone memory without uninstalling any of the apps or rooting???? i succeeded to update the firmware of my samsung galaxy Fit GT-S5670 to Ginderbread. but i am not able to connect my phone with samsung Kies software thereafter. on connecting the phone to Usbcable connected to computer with Kies running its showing ” connecting ” for long time and there after not getting connected. i updated the kies software to latest version , restarted my system and phone, connected with USB debugging On and off, connected with SD card mounted and Unmounted. but nothing happened and my phone not connecting to computer thus making me unable to transfer data from pc to phone / SD card.

1: Amount of free memory has decreased
2: Set has become very slow in response

I have put all info for Claro Panama network: APN: ba.amx, MCC: 714, MNC: 03, GSM: 1900 and WSCDMA: 1900, as long as I´m in 2G, no problem, but as soon as unmark “only 2G”, briefly, appears 3G, but immediately goes to “Emergency Calls Only”, when mark once again “2G only”, and right away goes to “EDGE”.

It wasn´t operator issue, it was my lack of knowledge, the culprit was the firmware I was using, it wasn´t for latam, when found one suitable for the GT-S5830″L”, all problems were gone, now, ended with Gingerbread 2.3.4, and full using 3G/H on my phone.

hello neal. i found that ginger bread version was released officially i i downloaded it with kies. but the update is not installing. is there any way for this problem. will flash player work with ginger bread 2.3 ? please guide me in this regard…..

I am going to buy a Samsung Galaxy Ace S5830 with o/s android 2.2 (Froyo) and with 800 Mhz. processor. If in future I wish to upgrade the o/s to android 2.3.3 (Gingerbread) will the phone work as/more efficiently. Would you in this context advice me to go in for the Samsung Galaxy S19000 with 1 Ghz processor.

I tried to update mine using samsung kies, but still in 2.2.1 after I’ve done the whole process.. I tried to do the process again but samsung kies says my firmware is updated already, what should i do? I restarted the phone as well as the pc but still, im not able to upgrade it..

I am Samsung Galaxy Ace Android 2.2 Froyo. I connected it to Samsung Kies. Then Kies Update downloaded & updated. after connecting my phone with Kies, I dont found any firmware update. I want to update to Android 2.3 Gingerbread. Also tell me the configurations of USB thereing & USB debugging to be kept on or off mode during donnecting the phne with Kies. How to update Android 2.3 Gingerbread while Kies doesn’t prompt me for any firmware update??
as of now 2.3. is not available through KIES!
USB TETHERING IS SIMPLE, JUST CONNECT USB TO PC / LAPTOP TO ENJOY INTERNET!
Keep USB debugging Off!

I tried to update my COPPER GT-S5830T (Thai version) even I don’t speak one word of Thai….I updated it 2.3.4 after taht my GPS stopped working. Downgraded to 2.3.3 different version version and then got it back on Froyo 2.2.1 DXKC1 which is the version that includes Thai.
Still no GPS everything else works fine, but the GPS is dead – what ever testprogram from market I’m trying no data comes back from the chipset, although most programs writes GPS on. I let stay more than eight hours outside to get a sat fix, but no no.
Now I would like my phono to DISPLAY GT-S5830 COPPER and not ACE… HOW !? As I need to go back to the shop and get an exchange…

i bought samsung Galaxy ace (androis 2.2.1 froyo version)i installed viber successfully now when im calling my husband on his iphone4 with viber ..its ringing even if he recieve the call im unable to connect the call ..though he recieve the call but on my galaxy ace just the bell is ringing…when my husband is trying to call on viber from i-phone4 ,i get the ring but im unable to receive ..wo both r on the wi-fi on same network.. we can send messages to each other on viber but calls are not getting connected on viber…so for that do i hav to upgrade it to gingerbread????plz advice and help me??where must be the problem..thx in advance

i updated my galaxy ace using samsung kies(in India). after the update whenever i connect the phone to the sysstem and turn on kies, a message appears on the pc that firmware not updated properly and it asks to do emergency firmware recovery.
i do whatever it asks but after downloading the emergency firmware files for a while it says that emergency firmware recovery failed.
a thing i noticed after the update was that the pop up windows that appear on the phone ( eg: adjusting the brightness and selecting language popups)appear slowly instead of the smooth way they used to appear in the previous version.
wil be glad if you got back to me on this.
since its a beta version, it wont support kies!
another issue i have is that i cant modify any content of my sd card by connecting it to the pc, it gives a message saying that the destination drive is full even though its got only 512 kb on it.
please help me out with this.

Ive been trying to update my Galaxy Ace to android version 2.3.4 from 2.3.3 but havent been able to do so. For some reason, it says no update available! Even though my friend has upgraded to 2.3.7. Please help? I stay in India but I’ve bought my phone from the UAE, if that helps. I’d really like to upgrade it to version 2.3.7
