How To Update Samsung Galaxy Ace GT S5830 to Gingerbread 2.3.3 XXKP9 Firmware

Samsung Galaxy Ace LogoFor all those who failed to update their devices in the last attempt, here is a great relief for all the users of Samsung Galaxy Ace GT S5830. Due to some serious bugs most of the users had to deal with the problems and errors in the back light time out, but not anymore as this has been completely fixed in an all new firmware version. Since these ROM’s are not the official ROMs but are the beta leaks which are almost equivalent to the original ROMs which will be soon launched by Samsung. The last version of Gingerbread 2.3.3 for Galaxy Ace was dubbed as XXKP8 but now the new version is dubbed as Gingerbread 2.3.3 XXKP9 where XX stands for European firmware and the remaining alpha numeric code denotes the version number.

Please note that this is not an official ROM or release by Samsung but an official beta release leak from Samsung which is being offered to all the beta testers who work with Samsung. If your device has been rooted then you will have to again root Samsung Galaxy Ace as after rooting all the system files are refreshed. Once the firmware is updated successfully then you can again root Samsung Galaxy Ace So, let’s proceed and see on how you can install the latest Gingerbread version for your Galaxy Ace GT S5830 which can be done by following the pre upgrade instructions followed by the procedure to install the latest Gingerbread 2.3.3 XXKP9.

I just got the Ace Thai version, which was running Froyo 2.2.1. I went along and updated loading the files from samfirmware.com and selected the 2.3.4 the version which on the screen was the only one in the color. Odin uploaded fine to the phone and everything got displayed in Polish when it went back online after boot. I cleared the phone as described, and installed programs. Tested everything and it looked great UNTIL I went on google maps…The GPS logo turn on in the statusbar, but nothing. Downloaded some testprograms from market, but but NOTHING.

After searching on google for this topic, I let the phone stay for quite some time outside in the garden, but NOTHING. Reboot, Nothing, Reflash, Nothing, downgraded to 2.3.3 NOTHING, downgraded to 2.2.1 NOTHING…..

    What happened…..

The only problems that i have found is that the screen will turn off and go dull, locking screen with lock on side of phone and then unlock will resolve this. Wifi will stop and wont restart untill phone is turned off and back on again. GPS has issues and will not lock.

As others have said the camera focuses perfectly in the preview but when the shutter actuates the results are badly out of focus. In fact it seems that every shot is focused at the infinity focal length as distant objects are in focus. Does anybody have any suggestions how I can fix this?

By the way, watch out for all the spying google stock apps. I would advice everyone to root their phone using this method: and immediately install Root Explorer and simply change names of these suspicious applications one by one in order to see what minimum set of apps is necessary for your phone to still work well according to your requirements. Getting rid of all extra apps is always the first thing that I do on my computers as well as my phones.

  58. Reply Safwan Khan May 22, 2011 at 7:36 am

All these noobs whining about their phones getting slow after upgrade need to look into what exactly is running in their phone besides the OS! I have upgraded my Samsung Galaxy Ace S5830 to XXKP9 GingerBread and My phone has started working BETTER THAN BEFORE! Yes! No halts, no sluggishness what-so-ever! A few games don’t work but what the hell, it’s well worth it. Who needs crappy games anyway! There are a lot of better coded and better designed games which work flawlessly even after upgrade. It’s really a stupid benchmark to only downgrade your OS because of a bunch of stupid games.

You also need to copy the NFS Data files in the android folder. So also download the data files and copy it to android>data folder.

You can follow the instructions provided in this link : http://www.bestandroiddownloads.com/download/games/emulators-simulators/need-for-speed-shift

After, re-flashing, draining of battery is very fast compared to earlier. Please advise, what I should do now to overcome this new problem ?????

I have upgraded my Galaxy Ace to Gingerbread but, the ODIN file downloaded as per your instruction was not working. I hv downloaded ODIN v 4.38 and it worked. However, after this upgrade, my phone is little slow and sometimes hanging that was not happenning earlier. Also, after wi-fi connection, symbol of wi-fi is not appearing properly. It’s very light and very difficult to see. Please advise what to do to overcome this problems.

firmware update worked fine by me. Only one problem: I don’t get my ACE rooted anymore (not with superoneclick and also not with gingerbreak). Something which is necessary for me due to the large number of applications I want to place on the SD card.

Is there a possibility to go back to the froyo firmware? (Seems the better option for me at this moment).
