Galaxy Tab P1000

How to Update Samsung Galaxy Tab P1000 with AOKP ICS Android 4.0 Firmware

Samsung Guess LogoHats Off to the AOKP (Android Open KANG Project) who have developed many ICS Android 4.0 custom ROM firmwares which are just awesome. So, on similar lines in this article we will be checking out on how you can easily install the latest ICS Android 4.0 firmware in your Original Samsung Galaxy Tab P1000 for which unfortunately SAMSUNG has refused to come up with an ICS firmware. Please note that this firmware which we will be talking of is a custom ROM firmware and not an official firmware released or leaked from SAMSUNG.

Note: Please note that this procedure will not work for the TABS which have model number as P1000L/ N / CDMA / P1010 Wi Fi Only versions. If you still continue to apply this update then there is a high probability that the device may get bricked.

Disclaimer: Neither we, nor developer should be held responsible for any damage happened to your device in the process of following the instructions mentioned in this article. It’s very unlikely that there will be any issues but just in case if at all there are any issues then we are committed to help you in solving the same.

Pre Requisites:

  • Your Galaxy Tab P1000 needs to be rooted and without rooting you cannot proceed for applying this firmware. You can use the Super One Click ROOT application for rooting your tab. This tool is a PC based tool and is a very safe tool indeed.
  • The minimum free space in your tab’s internal SD should be at least 3 GB.
  • All the data present in your phone should be backed up as in the process of applying this update, the data might get either lost or corrupted. With the help of below mentioned steps you can easily backup the same. After updating with this release, the KIES won’t recognize the device as it’s a custom ROM firmware.

SMS – Use “SMS Backup & Restore app”,
Contacts – Sync with the Gmail application,
Call Log – Call Log and Restore
Images, Songs, Videos, Files – Copy to internal / External SD Card,
APN and MMS Settings – Note down from the path “Applications > Settings > Wireless and Network > Mobile Networks > Access Point Names

  • Minimum charge left in the device should be at least 80% so as to ensure that device doesn’t get turned Off in the middle of firmware update.
  • Disable all the antivirus suites in your computer and uninstall the same in your device as these tools generally tend to interrupt the process of firmware update.
  • Irrespective of the current firmware you are ON, you need to ensure that you have rooted the same as this firmware can only be applied on the rooted firmwares.
  • Now, you need to enable the USB Debugging in your Galaxy Tab P1000 from the path “Settings > Applications > Development > USB debugging”. The USB Debugging option should be ticked.

USB debugging

So, assuming that you have followed all the above mentioned instructions you can now proceed to the next page where detailed instructions on how to update with the ICS Android 4.0 release is summed up.

I am just beginning this process, by saving and backing up my Tab 7 data. I have read the instructions three times. I was not so sure if I would try to upgrade, because it sounds very complicated. Now, that I have read the feedback and questions, I will probably not try. Can you offer any encouraging words of wisdom and support that will help me to get back into the ‘ring’? Thanks….

After 4 days I able to solve :

Make Sure to have these following files (search google)

    1. GB_Stock_Safe_v5.tar will contain the following files : gt-p1000_mr.pit,
GB_Stock_Safe_v5.tar, modem (i use jmf for most countries – non specific to

2.,Overcome Kernel and Overcome 7 Series
    ROM 4.1.1 Wipe Edition

    3. CF-Root-TAB7_XX_OXA_JQ1-v3.3-CWM3RFS.tar

    4. Easy rooting toolkit (v4.0) @echo created by DooMLoRD

    Before Proceeding to
PART 1 steps, make sure you have rooted your tab using Easy rooting toolkit (v4.0) @echo created by DooMLoRD and then use ODIN select PDA (.
CF-Root-TAB7_XX_OXA_JQ1-v3.3-CWM3RFS.tar) and make sure you did not select Re-Partition.
This will allow you to avoid the message Signature Verification Failed.

    Now proceed to PART 1.

Once it is Successful Go To PART2. (Part2 is always a
procedure to revert back to original 2.3.3)

    Once this is done.

Now follow this: Use ODIN and install : Overcome Kernel, and
make sure you did not select Re-Partition.

The restart will take a while (5 to 10 minutes) once it is
    finished and started.

Copy the Overcome 7 Series ROM 4.1.1 Wipe Edition to the
internal storage card (root area) and restart the tab in recovery mode and
    install the file.

    This works for me.

    Model Number : GT-P1000

    Firmware Version: 2.3.6

    Baseband Version : P1000XXJMF

    Kernel Version: Overcome-v4.0.0 #40

    Build Number : Overcome 7 Series v4.1.0

Darn thing remains at 2.3.3. Not ICS. Tried 3 times followed the instructions ditto.
    Earlier it was 2.3.3
Now again it is 2.3.3 different version. No update from Neela Jacka55 in spite of other people complaining the same thing.
Next time, try this out on your own device before recommending to others.

I tried ur update several times. The tab originally had android version of 2.3.3, and not rooted.
I had to root it as per your procedure and followed the whole procedure after rooting.
The firmware after doing the first part of ur procedure (after update in CWM Recovery mode and reboot) was version 2.3.6. I could use that for video call in GTALK etc.
However the firmware was reset to 2.3.3 after forllowing the second part.

I understand that there is an update available through kies by which the GTALK functions in video call mode also. But now I cant go for it as the tab is rooted.

Can you suggest a method to unroot the tab so that I can go for kies update till you come up with a corrected update?

I tried to unroot through superoneclick etc., but failed.

    Please help me.

Thanx a ton for the simplified procedure..

I am going to try this tomorrow on my tablet..

I have a few basic questions though.. (Don mind if they r stupid)

    1. What are the chances of the device getting bricked?
    2. If it gets bricked can i solve the issue on my own?
    3. Any identified bugs?
    4. And this is which version? 4.0.x?

    • Neela Pradeep

      March 31, 2012 at 12:48 pm

A question is a Question, no question is called as a LAME at AndroidADVICES 🙂
chances are impossible if you follow the instructions,
yes in an unfortunate event if it gets then it can be v well fixed
      Yes there are few!
      its 4.0.3
