How to Update SONY Xperia Z3 Compact with Lollipop 5.0.2 OS – Guide

Isn’t it amazing if you get to update your phone before anyone else? Yes, you can now update SONY Xperia Z3 Compact android smartphone with the latest 5.0.2 Android OS. The best part of this update is that this one comes with the chainfire’s pre rooted stock firmware as well which allows you to make the most out of your device. This new update can only be applied to the Xperia Z3 Compact (D5833) device. So let’s check out on what are the steps with which you can apply this update.

Quick Pre Requisites:

  • Before getting started, make sure that you have created a backup of all the data manually. Don’t use SONY PC Companion for backing up the data as in some cases it might not help you restore the data.
  • Assuming that your device is left with the 60%+ battery power, enable USB debugging as well in your device from Settings > Developer Options.
  • Your device must be on 23.0.A.2.93 or 23.0.1.A.5.77 firmware version which can be checked from the path of Settings > About Phone.Now, let’s get started with the detailed guide which will help you update the device.
  • Procedure to Update Xperia Z3 Compact (D5833) with Lollipop 5.0.2 Android OS:

  • Download Android 5.0.2 Firmware Update Package and once done, you now need to extract the same.
  • Connect your Xperia Z3 Compact to thae computer and then copy the downloaded firmware zip file to the root folder on your device’s SD Card.
  • Copy and paste the boot.img file from the extracted file to the android-sdk-windowsplatform-tools directory.
  • Turn off your device so that it can be booted in the boot loader mode. Boot loader mode in Xperia Z3 Compact can be entered by pressing and holding the Volume Up button while re connecting the device to the computer with the help of USB cable.
  • In Boot loader mode/ fastboot mode, you now need to navigate to the android-sdk-windowsplatform-tools directory and then open command prompt by clicking on the “Shift + Right Click” to open the command prompt.
  • In command prompt, you need to enter the below mentioned command;
  • fastboot flash boot boot.img
    fastboot reboot

  • Now, boot your device in the recovery mode. Recovery mode in Xperia Z3 Compact can be entered by pressing Volume Up and Volume Down few times when LED light turns ON.
  • In CWM recovery, you need to select wipe data / factory reset and also the option of “Wipe Cache partition”.
  • In recovery mode screen, you need to select “install zip from sd card” to select zip file which you have placed in the device.
  • So once you are done with selecting the file, just follow the on screen instructions for updating the device.
