We are at the end of the year with a few days to go, and HP claims to release new six and seven inch Android smartphones by the end of the year, according to the reports. The electronics giant HP is planning to return to the market and launch low cost phablets in emerging markets like India, Philippines and China. These devices would be available with the off contract prices ranging between $200 and $250 in these countries.
The device is likely to roll out with Google’s Android mobile Operating System, because HP has already has Androids devices in the store list. HP has released many varieties of 7 and 8 inch tablets based on Android earlier this year with HP Slate brand. Rumors also been coming up for months about HP’s plan of Smart Phone, which has not yet announced a Android phone.
The company’s CEO Meg Whitman has also indicated to media that HP will ultimately release a Smart Phone in 2013 and he also stated that developing for a mobile was more a long term prospect. The low cost setup of the rumored device also falls right in line with budget friendly Android tablets from the company.
In the past, HP has sold Smart Phones recently including webOS devices after the acquisition of Palm in 2010 in a 1.2 Billion dollar cash deal. Later, after the disappointing sales, HP decided to ditch its WebOS Smart Phone and tablets within a year after they had bought Palm with the main purpose being the OS.
So less than a week left for the end of the year, we are waiting for the devices from HP to be launched. This could be no surprise though if HP delays this and makes the official announcement during the CES 2014, which is to be held in the first and second weeks of Jan 2014.
