HTC Desire Z & T Mobile G2 – Steps to Install Android Ice Cream Sandwich 4.0 Firmware

ICS lOGOWith an exclusive move from a developer after mere few days of releasing of the Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich SDK, the users of HTC Desire Z / G2 can now power their phone with the latest Android’s version which is Ice Cream Sandwich. This is the first ever port which is still in the Alpha builds which is doing the rounds. So, if you are a beta tester or say a person who is well versed with the ROM upgrades then you we will see on how you can easily port this alpha built on your phone. The best part of this port is that anyone with their HTC Desire G2 Phones can proceed to apply this port for their phones.

Disclaimer: We should not be held responsible for any damage happened to your device after applying this update to your phone. Since it’s the alpha build and more than 95% of the functionalities are still not ported we don’t recommend this to your phone if you are a noob or new to the Android / Rooting / Flashing process. So, it’s highly not recommended for the normal users.

So, let’s proceed on how you can actually apply this update. Please note that you should be careful of some list of pre requisites which we have mentioned below just to ensure that you can easily and safely port this alpha release in your HTC Desire Z G2 Phone. Pre Requisites to apply Ice Cream Sandwich on HTC Desire Z / G2 Android Phone:

  • In the due course of porting Ice Cream Sandwich on HTC desire Z G2, the data in the phone may get lost, so it’s very important to create a backup of the same. So, for your simplicity we have mentioned below some of the list of things which you need to backup.

SMS – Use “SMS Backup & Restore app”,
ContactsSync with the Gmail application,
Call Log – Call Log and Restore
Images, Songs, Videos, Files – Copy to internal / External SD Card,
APN and MMS Settings – Note down from the path “Applications > Settings > Wireless and Network > Mobile Networks > Access Point Names

  • Once done with the backup, you now need to proceed to the charging of the phone and need to ensure that at least it’s charged to the minimum of 50%.
  • Now, ensure that you have enabled the USB Debugging option in your phone. You can enable the USB Debugging from the path “Settings > Applications > Development > USB Debugging” and then ensure that the USB Debugging is ticked in the option.
  • You also needs to ensure that you have rooted your HTC Desire Z G2 Phone.

    I just flashed this one on my Htc G2. OS loads but gets stuck in the main screen. Cant do anything. Touch screen not working at all. I just see an small mouse pointer that i can move it with the trackball (inverse axis).
    This thing doesnt work at all.
    How i can downgrade?
    Any help?

    What about the speed of Ice Cream on HTC Desire Z?? They say it will be slower on 800MHz phone…?

    Hmmm…why would I install an OS upgrade where I KNOW the touchscreen isn’t supported on a touchscreen phone?

      WSeems stupid to me also what good is a touch screen phone which has no touch screen, bit of a no brainer not to install it.
