Galaxy S I9000

Increase Music & Sound Volume on Galaxy S by 300%

Voodoo LogoWhile Samsung is battling a tough fight against Apple in the flurry of patent issues, the Engineering unit is busy in developing in building a technology to acquire the leadership position which Apple holds as of now. So, in the lines of it if you ever thought that the Sound amplitude of Galaxy S phone is way less than when compared to the Apple iPhone or even say an iPod then you got to think twice before you say this as making use of the biggest advantage of Android being an open source platform, a well-known developer has developed a tool called “Voodoo Control” with which you can not only just control the Sound clarity but can also adjust and tweak the Signal processing as well as the effects in the color optimization so that you can make the most out of the phone.

Disclaimer : In the due course of the process you will have to root the phone which is turn will void the warranty in your phone. To un root he device at any point of time or to also to revoke the root access at any point of time then you need to follow the procedure to update with Gingerbread XXJVS 2.3.5. Please note that we don’t undertake any responsibility in any manner in whole or in parts if any damage happens to your phone after applying the below mentioned procedure which is very unlikely if you follow each and every single instruction which is mentioned below.

Procedure to Increase Music output to 300% on your Samsung Galaxy S GT I9000:

  • So, before you proceed to the article you will have to ensure that you are having the Samsung Galaxy S GT I9000 with XXJVS 2.3.5 firmware installed on the same and also the same should be rooted. Just in case if you are neither on XXJVS 2.3.5 Gingerbread firmware nor you have rooted the phone, you can then do the same from the below links.

Procedure to Update Samsung Galaxy S GT I9000 with XXJVS 2.3.5

Procedure to Root Samsung Galaxy S GT I9000 on XXJVS 2.3.5

  • Now, once you have done with the above two steps then you will need to download the Voodoo Special Kernel Zip File from here which will contain two files which we will see on in the due course of the article on how you can use the same.

Extract Files Voodoo Control

  • Once you have downloaded the zip file, you will be prompted to enter the password, enter the password as “androidadvices.com” without the inverted comas. Once the zip file is extracted, you will then have to match that in the zip files whether two files are there or not as shown in the screen shot below.

Extracted Files in Voodoo Control

  • Just in case if even one file is missing then you need to download the zip file again. From the extracted files, you will now have to first up open the Odin and then you will have to turn Off the phone so that you can then enter the download mode.
  • The download mode can be entered by pressing  down on Volume Down Key + OK button, and holding both simultaneously press the Power Button. You can also refer to the video below to know more on how you can enter into the download mode for more convenience.

  • Now as soon as you enter into the download mode, you need to connect the phone to the computer or laptop with the help of the USB cable while keeping the Odin opened in the computer.
  • As soon as you connect the same, you will now see that there will be ID : COM section which will turn yellow which will mean that all the drivers have been successfully installed and you are now ready to proceed to the next step.
  • After this in Odin click on the “PDA” tab and choose the file named “Semaphore_kernel_JVS_1.7.0”, you will find this file in the extracted contents. Please note that no other file should be selected and also all the settings should be kept as shown in the below screen shot. Please note that the “Re-Partition” option should not be ticked and other options need not be changed / modified and should be the same as shown in the below image.
  • Now, once checking all the parameters which are mentioned above, you now will have to click on the “Start” to start the process of firmware update after which you will see that there will be a progress bar in your phone indicating the progress os the update.
  • Once the update is applied, the phone will be rebooted normally. Please note that it may take a while to boot the phone for the first time as it loads all the system files in the phone.

Optional Step if you are experiencing the Force Close Errors:

Just in case if you are having issues like frequent force close errors in your phone after applying this Voodoo Semaphore Kernel then you will need to first up turn Off the phone so that you can enter into the recovery mode.

  • To enter into the recovery mode, you will have to press Volume Down Key + Center button, and holding both simultaneously press the Power Button. As soon as you get into the recovery mode, you will have to choose the options of Wipe data/factory reset and after that select Wipe Cache partition. Once you are done with the above two selection of options, you will now have to choose the option of “reboot system now” which will restart the device.

  • So, that’s it once you have successfully applied the above procedure you now need to go to the Android Market Place to download the Application called “Voodoo Control”. As soon as you download and install the same, you will need to open it.

Voodoo Control

  • As soon as you open the application in your Android Phone, you will see the following screen shot.

Voodoo Control 1

  • Now, as soon as you open the application, you will see an option called “Headphone Amplifier”, just select the same after which you need to set the headphone amplifier level to the maximum as shown in the below image

Voodoo Control 2

  • Now, that’s it all you need to do now is to just check by playing any Song or even FM after which you will see that the sound will be 300% more than before.

Voodoo Control 3 Voodoo Control 4 Voodoo Control 5

Also, additionally you can choose from an array of options which are there available in this application like the selection of the Color profiles, Screen RGB Multipliers etc. Also there are many tweaks which you can choose so as to ensure that you can make the most out of the phone. You can also additionally control few tweaks of the FM Radio which are “Disable Voice filter”, “Don’t filter highs” and also yo can say optimize FM Radio level with this application.

Do let us know if there is anything you would like us to assist you with in the comments section below as we will try our level best to solve the same at the earliest.

Hello, For anyone interested, I have a Samsung Galaxy S GT-I9000.

    I had XXJVT Firmware installed.
I had also rooted XXJVT installed.
    I then installed the Semaphore_kernel_JVS_1.7.0.
I then installed the Voodoo special Kernal Control files.

Everything worked just as you had instructed. In short Voodoo Control definitely works with a rooted XXJVT.

    Thank you very much,
    Efrem

Hi there. After one and a half month i noticed that the one speaker of the headphone provided inside the i9000 package was not working. Also the i could barely hear what was the other person was saying.I tried a normal headphone with the simple 3.5 audio jack(no mic) and it worked fine. Also i used it in the car and stereo works fine, but if i put a 3way 3.5jack then it doesnt really worked.I flashed a 2.3.4 simple honey rom but it didnt work .I tried to go to the secret codes menu using *#*#197328640#*#* but the AUDIO directory is not opening!I tried pressing on it and typing {5} (it the number of the directory) but it doesnt open whatever i do.I tried voodoo and although it works wonderfull at playing music i still cant use the mic+headphones that came with samsung or another one i bought to check if the first is faulty. Now i want to revert back to stock so i can take it to the samsung shop for repair; What drivers do i need and what do i do to take it bac kto stock? stock rom that came with my phone was xwjvi 2.3.3
    Thank you!

    Hi Neal,
Iam currently on jvr and want to upgrade to jvs and root the phone for the first time
I also plan on getting this kernel fix to tweak the sound output. My question is way off tge topic but iam hoping you will answer it for me.
I want to take a complete back up of my phone without having to purchase… I know titanium is a good tool but iam not rooted yet…and since I will root this time I dont want to spend money for one time back up….what would you suggest?
Also does jvs rooted version end battery drain and forceclose errors
that exist on jvr? Will it free any memory on my rom and improve my quadrant scores? I read your articles and understand your instructions…but somehow jvp either wonders for me and ever since I updated to jvq I have seen nothing but issues…
I also know you like to reply in 1 liners…but I request you to give me a detailed reply..I appreciate it very much….
keep up the good work man!!!!

    • NeaL Pradeep

      September 21, 2011 at 10:58 am

yes you first need to apply XXJVS and then apply this Kernel in your phone!
