Indian Students to get Free Aakash $35 Android Tablet

In another twist to the worlds cheapest Android tablet only available in India, will be now available for free to students by Indian Government. At an event in Bangalore, India, Kapil Sibal, the honorable HRD minister of India revealed about the plans of the government.

He said uptil now Aakash tablet was available for Rs 2500 for customers outside and students used to get it at a discounted price after 50 % rebate. So they used to get Aakash tablet a price of approximately Rs 1,200.

It was the summit organized by Indian Semiconductor Association that Kapil Sibal spoke about its plans. Though student are getting it for Rs 1200 the total cost for the government is around Rs 1,500 and Government has now decided to come up with subsidy of Rs 750 and the remaining Rs 750 has to be covered by the educational institutions to which students belongs to. Still this is appraisal from Government point of view and none of the institution has come up with clear indication that they will support this plan. If everything works out well then student might get Aakash tablet for free. This was the target of Aakash to cut the digital gap within the country and the plan of offering free tablet will penetrate much faster providing information technology and e-learning reaching faster to students.

Aakash tablet has certainly gone with big hiccups from being a flop tablet to world news as the cheapest tablet. Earlier Aakash tablet was delayed more than a year of its initial launching date due to vendors unable to meet the requirements. Datawind finally agreed to do this project and shipped first batch of Aakash tablets. An upgraded version of Aakash has been developed and it’s called as Ubislate 7 which is available at a price of Rs 2,900 and we have gone through complete in detailed comparison between what in Aakash and Ubislate 7. While many of them have called this tablet as makeover on the cheap Chinese tablet which never really boots. There are many complaints from users as well as they have pre order this tablet, also made the payment in advance but they haven’t received this tablet on time as expected to be delivered by authorities responsible for this.

Indian Government is still backing up this tablet and they have roped in another three IITs institutions assisting IIT Rajasthan in building a newly improved version of Aakash. IIT Madras, IIT Mumbai and IIT Kanpur will be assisting IIT Rajasthan in coming up with a flawless machine which would be much better and improved.

If Government of India does the right steps in time then Aakash might be the fastest growing device in India market hitting the sales of top Android tablets.
