Google just introduced the Android Wear OS for the smart watches (the wearable devices), and one of the early partners for it is Motorola, with the introduction of Moto 360 smartwatch, but many might not have noticed that Google actually introduced the LG G Watch as one of the first devices being powered with the Android Wear OS, and this will be the first device to be launched with the Android Wear.
So, the story of wearable gadgets for Google starts with the LG G Watch and the Moto 360, from two companies which are quite close with Google for different reasons – LG has been the main brand behind the recent Nexus devices (Nexus 4, Nexus 5, LG G Pad 8.3 Google Play Edition) and Motorola was Google-owned company when the Moto X and Moto G were launched, and recently it had been acquired by Lenovo, but that doesn’t mean the two brands would stop dealing about stuff.
It was since quite some time that the LG G Watch was being worked on, by the engineers, so that the users get to take advantage of the smart watch with what all is possible. “With the LG G Watch, LG is continuing the milestones we’ve set in wearables following in the footsteps of the world’s first 3G Touch Watch Phone in 2009 and the Prada Link in 2008,” said the company.
Here is an excerpt from the Press Release sent by LG.
“The opportunity to work with Google on LG G Watch was the perfect chance for LG to really pull out all stops in both design and engineering,” said Dr. Jong-seok Park, president and CEO of LG Electronics Mobile Communications Company. “With the LG G Watch, LG is continuing the milestones we’ve set in wearables following in the footsteps of the world’s first 3G Touch Watch Phone in 2009 and the Prada Link in 2008. We’re confident that a well-designed device has the potential to take the smart wearable market by storm.”
The watch is expected to be launched in the coming months, and this year already shows the wearable tech overshadowing the smartphone, with every big name in the Industry getting into this category – Samsung Gear Fit, LG Lifeband Touch, Sony Smartband and lots more.
