LG G5 with Modular Design & Always-On Display Announced at MWC

After the series of leaks and rumors, the South Korean giant, LG has officially unveiled its flagship LG G5 smartphone at the MWC 2016 event in Barcelona. The LG G5 comes with an all-metal unibody and innovative modular design with the bumpy camera at the back of the unit. The smartphone comes with a unique slide out battery port at the bottom of the unit that means you can change the battery of the handset. The LG G5 is not just a smartphone it is something big, as with the modular design the smartphone can also transform into LG Cam+, Hi-Fi Plus, and 360 VR. The LG G5 is the successor of the LG G4 that launched last year, and is an upgrade in every aspect.


Coming to the specifications part, the LG G5 flaunts a 5.3-inch (2560×1440 pixels) QHD IPS Quantum display offering 554ppi as pixel density and 3D arc glass laid on top. As confirmed earlier, the smartphone also features an Always-on display that shows the important notifications without switching on the screen. The smartphone comes powered by all-new 64-bit Snapdragon 820 quad-core processor clubbed with Adreno 530 GPU and 4GB of RAM. It has 32GB of onboard storage that can be further expanded to 2TB via a microSD card slot.

The smartphone sports dual rear cameras among which one is a standard 16MP sensor with laser autofocus, dual-tone LED flash, 4K video recording support and the other is an 8MP sensor 135-degree wide-angle lens. On the front, it has an 8MP shooter to capture perfect selfie images. The device supports dual sim dual standby and includes connectivity options like 4G-LTE, Wi-Fi, GPS/A-GPS, NFC, Bluetooth 4.2 and microUSB Type-C port. The smartphone also includes a fingerprint sensor for enhanced security placed below the camera bump at the back of the unit.


The handset comes backed by a 2800mAh battery and supports latest Qualcomm Quick Charge 3.0 technology. The device runs on Android 6.0 Marshmallow based LG’s UX UI laid on top out of the box. The dimensions of the smartphone measure 149.4 x 73.9 x 7.7 mm weighs around 159 grams and comes in Silver, Titan, Gold and Pink color variants. Along with the LG G5, the company has also announced many companion devices such as LG 360 VR, LG 360 Cam, and LG Rolling Bot and called them as LG Friends. The LG G5 will be available for purchase globally starting April, and there is no word on the pricing of the device. Stay tuned for more information in coming days.
