Update Galaxy S PLUS GT I9001 with Jellybean 4.2.2 Firmware – Guide

Samsung Galaxy S Plus S I9001Samsung Galaxy S PLUS GT I9001 smartphone can now be updated with the latest Jellybean 4.2.2 version of firmware. With customizable themes, more apps support, better speed and optimization powered with an all new UI which is actually awesome. Unfortunately, Samsung won’t be pushing the Jellybean 4.2.2 release officially, but all thanks to the Cyanogen Mod Team who have come up with this firmware update of Jellybean 4.2.2 firmware.

So, before we proceed to check on what are the detailed instructions with which you will have to follow before proceeding to apply this firmware update. Applying this update will void the warranty, but the best part is that by updating with the below mentioned firmware, the warranty can be reclaimed as it is an Official firmware update released by Samsung Electronics.

Pre Requisites:

  • All the data in your device should be backed with the help of below mentioned steps. Don’t use KIES or any other tools for backing the data as it won’t help you restore the data.

SMS – Use “SMS Backup & Restore app”,
Contacts – Sync with the Gmail application,
Call Log - Call Log and Restore
Images, Songs, Videos, Files – Copy to internal / External SD Card,
APN and MMS Settings – Note down from the path “Applications > Settings > Wireless and Network > Mobile Networks > Access Point Names

  • Enable the USB Debugging Mode in your computer from the path “Settings > Applications > Development > USB debugging”. Also, the minimum battery life should be a minimum of 40% or else there is a risk of device getting turned Off in the middle of firmware update.

As this is a custom ROM firmware, you will have to root your device. To check on whether the device is rooted or not, you will have to download the Root Checker app for checking the same. Just in case if the device is not rooted, you will have to root the same with the help of below mentioned steps.
