Monitor Internal Memory Disk Usage on Android & Save Space

When you have installed so many application your phone, it practical that your phone takes considerably much time to response. This article is related on internal memory disk usage and saving space on your Android phone.

First thing is we will go through on how to check the total storage on your phone. To find out the space available on your mobile phone, you need to tap on the Menu > Settings and ‘SD card and phone storage‘. This will display the total size available on your phone, available space, unmounted SD card and internal phone storage available space.

Disk Space
When you press the Menu > Settings > Applications and Manage applications you will see each individual segment of phone along with the memory used by them. The Manage application classifies the memory usage on your phone depending on the application download, All applications, on SD card and the running applications. If you observe carefully, then you will notice that this doesn’t give you accurate statistics on total memory consumption on my SD card and on the USB storage.

Manage Applications
To get a better understanding on the disk space usage we recommended to go with Disk Usage android application. Disk Usage is an Android application which allows you to get visual representation on the directories which consumes internal storage memory. This application on your Android mobile phone and tablets displays the size occupied by each directories on the disk space where they are stored. This application can be downloaded from Android Apps Labs for free.

Scan Directories
When you install this application, open it with view selection as ‘App Storage’ and then click on Menu > Scan to scan for the directories with their usage space. All right I have the following storage card usage on my Galaxy S2 mobile phone –  Galaxy S 2 Memory
As you see in the above screenshot that total storage capacity is 11780 MB and it has 7854 Mb of free storage shown in the second column. Among the storage card usage, it gives you clear view of how much each folder is consuming the space.

This application is must to free some of the space which you don’t require and from this application you can distinguish that which application shouldn’t be using your internal memory and alternatively you can make arrangements to move that application to SD card. The only thing which is missing in this application is to move the application automatically to SD card from the internal memory. Not a problem, as a suggestion from us, you can install the App2SD android application to move the application which are installed on your internal storage to the SD card and reduce the load on your phone. This intern increase the response time on your phone.
