This update comes as a great respite for all those who always wanted an Official update and this update is for all the users who are on the Verizon’s network. In the due course of the article we will check out on how you can easily update your phone by following few simple steps. The best part of this update is that it’s an official update which is available for all the users of Motorola Droid Pro latched on to the Verizon’s network.

So, in the due course of this article we will see on what are the list of enhancements which come along with this update and then followed by the procedure to apply this gingerbread release to your phone.

Rooting Information:
Please note that just in case if you have already rooted your phone then after applying this Gingerbread release, the rooting access will be revoked and then to root the phone again you need to follow the rooting procedure to root the phone again. Also, applying this firmware update will not in any manner will be rooting the phone.

  • Just in case if you are on any of the custom ROM firmwares then you need to ensure that you have cleared the data before you proceed or else there is no way that you will be getting the Official release pushed into your device as this update will try to match the current firmware version and if that version is not the one which is official then the update won’t be pushed.
  • Note that that if you are using any other kernels apart from the default ones or if you are using the Voodoo kernels then in the recovery mode you will have to select the “advanced” tools and then you will have to disable the Voodoo options if at all if there are any. Alternatively, to get the best battery life, you can also clear the battery stats which will be located in the Advanced options in the recovery mode.
  • So, before you proceed you need to ensure that you have created a back of some of the things which are stored in your phone or else there is a probability that you may end up bricking up the phone. For your convenience we have listed some of the things which you need to back up so that they can be restored after the firmware update.

SMS – Use “SMS Backup & Restore app”,
ContactsSync with the Gmail application,
Call Log – Call Log and Restore
Images, Songs, Videos, Files – Copy to internal / External SD Card,
APN and MMS Settings – Note down from the path “Applications > Settings > Wireless and Network > Mobile Networks > Access Point Names

  • Now, next up is you need to ensure that the battery is at least has a battery backup of 50 – 60% or else there will be a probability that the phone may get turn off in the process of the firmware update.
