It’s hard for the Motorola smart phone owner that their devices are still awaiting the Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich update. Many of them have moved to custom firmware’s based on the Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich but the wait gets longer and longer. Motorola Mobility has finally broke the jinx surrounding their delay in updating the devices with the latest Android version which was launched last year by rolling out the Ice Cream Sandwich update to Droid Razr and Droid Razr Maxx smart phones. Infact the Android 4.1 Jelly Bean is available but Motorola smart phones still are on the Android 2.3 Gingerbread. Top players like Sony, HTC and Samsung have almost completed the Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich upgrade to their qualified smart phone.
The good news is here as the Motorola Razr and Razr Maxx users in India can get relief. So what are you waiting for just take out your device, get connected to internet via Wi Fi and proceed with the over the air update (OTA). The file size of this big update is anything between 200 to 240 MB. Make sure that you have backed up everything using whatever tool that you use all the time and this update is optional to all the users. Users who have updated their smart phones with this upgrade, they can revert back to Gingerbread.
As we go through the enhancements and improvements included in this upgrade, there is a long list if I count the Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich features. Apart from introduction of features like Android Beam, Face unlock, Data management, the following are the other important updates –
- Over all user interface is new and fresh
- Enhanced voice recognition system
- Home screen customization
- Good number of navigation changes
- Improved batter life
- Free EA Games
Regarding the free EA games, Motorola is giving out some of the Android games for free of charge. These are seen after this update in the Motolounge app and you can get about 9 popular apps. Wow! That’s amazing. Certainly it was long wait but Motorola has paid them by providing this free offering.
How to Update
Just before you proceed with the update, you should make sure that you have taken the backup of SMS, Call logs, Contacts and content on your phone memory. You can use any program or app that you have previously used. Once you are ready with that, we advise you to connect your phone using the Wi Fi and proceed with this update not on the 3G data connectivity. This is because 3G data connectivity will cost you much as the file size for this update is around 240 MB, moreover it would take more than one hour to download and apply firmware if you are using the 3G data connection. If you are connected via Wi Fi with high speed internet then you can update your phone within 30 minutes of your time.
To check for the updates whether they are available or not, you need to go through Menu > Settings > About Phone and then tap on Software Update. Now tap on Update and this will connect to the Motorola server to check for the update. When it says updates are available and ready for download, tap on download and update files will be downloaded to your phone. Once they are downloaded you would be prompted to Upgrade, click on Upgrade and the firmware would be applied to your phone. Your phone then would be restarted once those updates are applied and you are ready to use the new look on your phone.
The Android 4.0 roll out for the other Motorola Android phones would be release out soon and there is no fix schedule for this. Keep checking out Android Advices and do subscribe to our email newsletter.
