Motorola has rolled out the official Android 4.4.2 KitKat OTA update to Motorola DROID Razr M and DROID Razr HD variants. These two variants were released in the 2012, and since then the update to the latest OS versions was awaited. Motorola has now started sending the Android 4.2.2 KitKat OTA (over the air) update but surprising to see the models like DROID Ultra and DROID Mini which were released in the year 2013, still behind the older ones in Firmware update rollout. Earlier these two variants were running the Android 4.1 Jelly Bean OS and now they can be updated with Android 4.4.2 KitKat Operating System. These models are available outside the U.S but updates are seen only for Verizon models.
The new software update can be checked on the device by just going to Menu and search for Settings then find About Phone and in Software update section, you will find the Android 4.4.2 KitKat OS update available, and if not, you might have to wait and keep searching for the update manually. The new OS installation should be done through Wi-Fi connection; otherwise the Verizon data charges are applied. With this new firmware installation, the device will run better and more efficiently when compared with its early OS. The company has officially given the change logs for Razr M and Razr HD, and to add to the beautiful Motorola interface, the KitKat-only features are added to enhance the interface of these two devices.
With the release of Android 4.2.2 KitKat Operating System many enhancements has been done such as color emoji support, smarter power use, new screen mode and many more. These devices will support new version of Google Hangouts which includes both SMS and MMS messaging. Apart from the above changes mentioned for the new OS update, the enhancements are seen even in the apps such as Google Docs, Gmail, Software support to print photos via phone, Wi-Fi and Bluetooth.
