The saga of the cheapest Android smartphone in India doesn’t end and the competition on the Android smartphone below Rs 10,000 is now completely conquered by leading players like Samsung, LG and HTC. With Samsung Galaxy Pocket and Galaxy Y, Galaxy Y Duos completely ruling the market, MTS still thinks that there is hope for some more.
While MTS leading competitors are Micromax, Spice and Karbonn, MTS tries to believe in CDMA range of handsets and they have launched another smartphone called MTag 401 which gets the power of the Google’s open source Android operating system.
MTS has 16 million mobile subscribers and expanding their business further they have come up with MTS MTag 401 which certainly redefines MTag 3.1 and Livewire smartphones by MTS itself. Going through the specifications of the MTag 401, it would be sported with 4 inches WVGA capacitive touchscreen display providing 800 x 480 pixel resolution. This would run on the Qualcomm Snapdragon S1 800 MHz processor which is quite outdated version of the Qualcomm technology and it would be with outdated Android 2.3 Gingerbread operating system, again not the latest and also no upgrade to Ice Cream Sandwich would be made available. It would be powered with 1700 mAh battery which is quite good for the smartphone at this price tag and other features includes 3 mega pixel camera for photos and video recording, 256 MB RAM, 512 MB ROM, Wi Fi internet connectivity, A Gps, 2 GB of free memory card and micro sd card slot. This would come with internet access to the Google Play Store to download and install various Android applications, widgets, tools and this would see pre installed applications like Google Mail, Google Maps, YouTube, Google talk, Google Voice and Google Search.
MTS doesn’t forget to add more excitement to their every handset and it would come with MTS TV for watching channels on your mobile phone itself. It would provide a maximum speed of 3.1 Mbps and interestingly it would come with free voice calls and data bundled offer. The plan goes like this – you would be provided with paper voucher of Rs 492 inside the handset box pack itself, FRC is off 8 Rs and you get MTS to MTS 150 minutes per day for three months. Data plans includes unlimited internet access for three months. After three months of expiry of this combo plan users have to recharge with STV 62 every month to enjoy the bundled usage benefits.
Remember Idea Cellular with Idea Blade smartphone with mass advertisements on television, MTag 401 by MTS would be an equal competitor of it as it beats Idea Blade easily specification wise and the price difference is just spend of $ 10 extra which users will never mind. But Idea Blade has mass popularity and they have targeted users in the right away and on the other side MTS doesn’t go with any advertisements of their smartphones. Also it would be hard to beat Micromax recently launched smartphones like Superfone Punk A45 available at Rs 5500, Micromax A50 Ninja phone and other branded phones. MTS MTag is priced at Rs 8,999 and we think if they reduce the price further it would offer a good competition.
