How to Root & Install Custom Recovery in HTC Chacha – Tutorial

Pre Requisistes:

  • Before proceeding, you need to back up all the data which is there stored in your phone memory as just in case if the data gets lost or corrupted, the same can be restored easily. For your simplicity we have mentioned all the tips to backup and restore data. Please don’t backup or restore the data using the HTC Sync or any PC Suites.

Notes – Backup in the mail so that you can then restore manually
SMS Messages – Use “SMS Backup & Restore app”,
Contacts Stored in Phone Memory – Sync with the Gmail application,
Call Log – Call Log and Restore
Videos, Images, Videos & Files etc.– Copy to internal / External SD Card,
Internet & MMS Settings – Backup all the settings from the path “Applications > Settings > Wireless and Network > Mobile Networks > Access Point Names”.

  • After this ensure that the phone is charged with the minimum of 70% so as to ensure that the device doesn’t get turned off in the process of firmware update. Also disable all the firewall tools as well as the antivirus suites so that these tools doesn’t interrupt the process of rooting and last but not the least enable the usb debugging from the path Settings > Applications > Development > USB debugging as shown in the below image.

USB Debugging

Let’s head to the next page where we will see on how you can root and S Off the HTC Chacha phone.

atm I get same hang up at…
    No Image found etc
    ..
    Parsing…[PH06IMG.zip]

\Once you enter into the HBoot, the phone will scan the PH06IMG.zip which you have placed in the SD Card. Now, you need to enter into the Recovery mode by pressing the power button and the Volume key which will take you to the clock work mod recovery.\
i couldn’t make it to mod recovery… please describe this part again..

    • Neela Pradeep

      March 8, 2012 at 10:05 am

you need to first enter the device in the recovery mode!

I’ve put both files in SD Card.. When it comes to HBOOT, it gets the file PH06img.zip , but after that it’s saying
    Parsing…[PH06IMG.zip]
    i think it’s not working..?

This procedure is not working for htc chacha with
    Hboot-1.04.0000
    microp-0557
    radio-7.47.35.17

please help i would like to root my phone

    December 31, 2011 at 4:42 pm

I don’t think this article is of any help. I have not seen a single positive response here.
I kept the two files in the /mnt/sdcard dir. I also tried to place it in / dir and was denied for permission.

On Hboot the loader fails to identify the two zip files. Either this article needs to be more elaborate or it should be deleted from this website.

May be this guy doesn’t understand the whole process itself!

      December 31, 2011 at 4:44 pm

we have noted the same, really apologize for the same! due to some bootloader issues, the devices are unable to get rooted!

    I am confused:
You talk about s-off, you show a screen capture where we can read \BUZZ PVT SHIP S-ON\, you say that \we should see S-OFF\, but you say that the screen capture with \BUZZ PVT SHIP S-ON\ corresponds to s-off ?
I have the same screen as the one you captured, am I s-on or s-off ?
Could you clarify a bit please. Thanks.

    • Pradeep Neela

      December 26, 2011 at 9:36 am

If u are able to install any zip then s on is off or else u need to s off.

Now, you will have to press the Volume Up key and then the flashing process will be started, once its done you will then be asked to reboot he phone manually. How does it works? I press the volume up key but it shows nothing. There is no flashing process??

    December 12, 2011 at 11:03 pm

why take all this effort to make a fake guide? The screenshot for the HBOOT is not a ChaCha screen. If this is indeed true. Either show a video or correct screenshot of ChaCha hboot. This is showing Buzz.

  31. saeidos

    December 4, 2011 at 7:02 pm

Is this a guaranteed fix to change S-ON to S-OFF?
I am fairly active on various forums, including XDA and this method won’t guarantee the S-OFF they claim.

    Any tips?
