How to Root Samsung Galaxy SL I9003 on Gingerbread 2.3.6 DDKP1/DDKP2 Firmware
Just few days back we saw on how you can update your Galaxy SL I9003 devices with the latest DDKP1 / DDKP2 Gingerbread 2.3.6 firmwares and in this article we will see on how you can root the same. So, before we proceed you need to ensure that you are on the DDKP1 or DDKP2 versions only as these can be applied only on these firmwares. It’s very simple to check whether you are on one of these firmwares or not, to check visit the path Settings > About Phone > Firmware Version where it will show DDKP1 / DDKP2 2.3.6. Just in case if it shown any other firmware version then this article is not for you.
Disclaimer: We should not be held responsible in any manner just in case if anything wrong happens to your device, which is a very unlikely event if you follow the procedure which is mentioned below.
Rooting Information: Please note that once you root the device the warranty will get void, so keep a note of this. The only way with which you can revoke the root access is that you need to again re apply the firmware update of DDKP1 or DDKP2 so that the warranty will get void.
Many of the Users ask us in the comments section on what is Rooting and what are its advantages.
What is Rooting and its Advantages:
Rooting is a process wherein the system files are provided with the access by the third party applications due to which the customization becomes possible.
Rooting allows you to customize the phone with the help of custom ROMs and also allows you to make use of other apps which require the rooting access.
The only disadvantage is that the warranty gets void, though it can be regained by updating with any of the stock or default firmwares.
So, let’s check out on what are the list of Pre Requisites you need to follow before moving to the procedure which is mentioned in the next page.
Pre Requisites:
- Download respective Rooting packages for your Galaxy SL I9003 from the below mentioned links in your computer and extract the same.
- Assuming that you have downloaded the Rooting package, you now need to backup all your data present in your phone so that just in case if the data gets wiped off or corrupted, the same can be restored easily. With the help of below mentioned tips, you can easily backup or restore the data.
Notes – Backup in the mail so that you can then restore manually
Text messages – Use “SMS Backup & Restore app”,
Phone Contacts – Sync with the Gmail application,
Call Log - Call Log and Restore
Pictures, Music, Videos, Files etc.– Copy to internal / External SD Card,
Internet & MMS Settings – Backup all the settings from the path “Applications > Settings > Wireless and Network > Mobile Networks > Access Point Names”
- Enable the USB debugging from the path Settings > Applications > Development > USB debugging as shown in the below screen capture.
- Close all tools in your computer like the Antivirus tools, KIES PC Suite and also the firewalls as these tools tend to interrupt the rooting process. Ensure that the device is left with the charge of minimum 60% so as to ensure that all the issues are sorted out.
So, assuming that you have followed all the instructions carefully you now need to proceed to the next page where we will see the procedure on how to root your Galaxy SL I9003 phone.

Hi Pradeep. I’m a serious situation.
I went through your instruction. I didn’t check the “Re-Partition” on Odin. I mean it was blank. I rooted the phone and it rebooted. Odin showed “Passed” with green signal. 10 minutes went by but my phone didn’t start. I unplugged the data cable. 15 minutes waited still no answer. Then I removed the battery and try going to recover mode. In the recovery mode bottom, it said most of the lines meant negative like couldn’t found E:\android etc not found. I wiped out the data and cache but it failed. Now, i restarted my phone. still, not loading but stuck on the “Galaxy S GT-I9003″ welcome image. The phone didn’t start. So, i tried to root it again but Odin showed, “Failed” this time checking the “Re-Partition” on. Now, When i try to go to Recovery Mode, it doesn’t happen. Only it shows a logo which means “Phone To PC Connection Has Problems”. This text doesn’t appear but the logo tells this. When I tried to normally start the phone, it shows the same.
Pls help. I’m so fraustrated. My dad’s gonna kill me.
Pls pls help.
APPLY THE FIRMWARE AGAIN, YOUR ISSUES WILL BE RESOLVED!
dear frnd, my galaxy sl i9003 is disconnected durind the process, the phone was not working, it seems only phone and warning indicator and system indicator, please help me
Hi. I’m in a serious situation.
I followed your instructions when rooting my GT-I9003. I used Odin as it was in your package for DDKP1. I did as you say in your instructions. The “Re-Partition” wasn’t check at the time of rooting. Then, I pressed the start button. My phone rebooted and after some time, Odin showed “Passed”. Now, 15mins went by but my phone was still on the “Galaxy S GT-I9003” screen. So, I disconnected the device and removed battery. Then went in recovery mode to Wipe Data and Cache. But it didn’t work. I rebooted my phone again but 20mins went by and still I was stuck on the welcome screen. So, I tried to root again with Odin and this time, it showed “Failed”. Now, I’m not able to go to recovery mode. When I go to recovery mode or start like normal mode, it shows me a logo. Since i can’t upload the picture of the logo, i will describe. The logo is telling there’s problem with Phone & PC connection. A Phone Logo, A Hazard Logo and a PC logo appears. Now, I’m not able to do anything.
Please, help or my Dad’s gonna kill me. Please Please Please.
PS: The Downloading Mode still opens.
re insert the battery and again root or apply the firmware again by following the instructions!

So what should i do now?
If my mum finds out,im gonna die..
So please do help me,pls~~~
Please help ya~
1) If you would have followed the instructions properly then there’s no chance anything would have gone wrong.
2) Read the disclaimer before doing anything. Unless u know what you are getting into.
3) If you are not able to boot into recovery and download mode (which i assume you are doing properly. Re-check if you are doing it properly) then take your mobile to the nearest Samsung service center.
I had the same problem, but I left the phone without battery over the night. In the morning I put the battery and pushed the correct buttons to get into recovery mode.
If somebody got into this situation:
1. Take off battery, SD Card, SIM.
2. Wait at least two hours
3. Follow the instructions properly.

Can I use this Tutorial with DDKP2?
yes you can apply the update!
Hey.\
I bought my Galaxy I9003 from Thailand. Few days back Kies showed that update is available to GB. 2 days after the update my mobile started restarting randomly and it just stuck at the samsung logo screen and kept restarting.
Then using your firmwares i updated it to xxkpq but still the same problem. I had to take the battery out and then restart and then select items on the startup screen and the main screen was like new everytime with all contacts and msgs deleted.
I updated twice with xxkpq with deleting cache and also factory reset everytime but no help. Then i switched to froyo from your site, but it was not stable. Force slose notifications came every minute. Then I plugged it into Kies and there was an update to DDKP2. I just did that yesterday and now again the same restarting problem. I clear the cache everytime but still no help. What should i do?
i did as required in the steps, but when the phone starts to boot it ends in the first screen showing samsung galaxy i9003 and won’t continue!
please help
and then how to unroot?? to get back the warranty..
