How to Root Samsung Galaxy SL I9003 on Gingerbread XXKPQ 2.3.6 Firmware
So, after installing the latest version of firmware for your Samsung Galaxy SL I9003 which is XXKPQ 2.3.6 Gingerbread version, it’s now time that you take out your phones to root he same as you can further customize the phone the way you want it. Please note that you need to go through a short procedure so as to root he phone which we will see in this article. Before proceeding, its very important to check whether you are on XXKPQ firmware or not which you can check from the path Settings > About Phone > Firmware Version where you will find the version of Android OS which is XKKPQ Gingerbread 2.3.6.

1. I updated it through Kies and can see that it is 2.3.6 and not 2.3.5 as you say here.

yes, i have the issue on XXKPQ, my wifi gets disabled when my screen locked/Idle, and its using my datapackage. when i unlock my screen only wifi starts again. coz of this reason, during phone IDLE time also.its eats battery..it needs to be fixed

rooting basically opens up the device for the third party apps or tools to access the system level files so that customization can be done!

I updated my Galaxy sl from 2.2 Froyo to XXKPN 2.3.5 recently according to your instructions, then again to XXKPQ via kies.
But the problem i am facing is that, the phone keeps restarting after some time if kept idle and all the call details, settings also reset. Pls guide
do one thing, go to recovery mode and then clear the cache!
Certainly i’ll do that, and one more thing is, my market is not accessible right now….. and every time i switch the phone on, it shows me all the settings like language, wifi, packet data etc

I upgraded my phone to 2.3.6 xxkpq and now i need to root the device but there seems to be many wifi issues after rooting so Neal can you suggest any other way to root because I am always connected via wifi.

connect the phone to the computer and then wait for a minute till the ID : COM section in the Odin turns yellow which will mean that all the drivers have been successfully updated and you are ready to proceed to next step.
i stuck at there. after i connect my phone to computer, The ID : COM part never turn to yellow as u mention above. i try to wait about 15 min but still didnt change.. my phone just show on downloading… do not turn off target!!!
hope you may help me asap coz my phone become always shut off it self during idle time. thanxs nael. regards

Hi Neal. Thanks first for the simple steps on rooting my phone.
Now I have an issue. the phone restarts at random intervals. not continuous, but have restarted 3 times since I rooted at 1AM. I cleared the cache partition and even after that it restarted once..

how come when i open the rooting package it say “the archieve is either in unkown format or damaged”??

In my case, when I tried to do this and get my phone I9003 rooted I lost WIFI (“Error” message) and can’t get it back.
This is because I had a rom from Movistar (phone company). Then, my last option was to install XXKPQ 2.3.6 (samsung rom). First of all, I get the feeling everything goes faster. Then, I tried to root my I9003 and I did it!!!!
The only problem is that your device is not under warranty if you root your phone… but this worked to me.

As I look around xda-dev and get some information, I’ve got one question.
According to the guys at XDA, I need XXKPE in order to flash XXKPQ, however there is only one file, which is XXKPQ, in the file I downloaded. I’m a newbie, so I’d appreciate if you tell me kindly.
