Samsung Confirms ICS 4.0 for Galaxy S2, Note, R, Tab 10.1, Tab 7.7 and more

The Android Ice Cream Sandwich OS would be officially available to the Samsung Galaxy devices through the Samsung Electronics, starting with the Galaxy S II and the Galaxy Note, followed by a few other high-end Samsung Galaxy devices. The availability of ICS would start from the 1st quarter of 2012, and Samsung says the first devices which would receive the ICS update would include GALAXY S II, GALAXY S II LTE, GALAXY Note, GALAXY R, GALAXY Tab 10.1, GALAXY Tab 8.9, GALAXY Tab 7.7, and GALAXY Tab 7.0 Plus.

For the models which are going to receive the update, the scheduling is not yet done and the OS update would be made available depending on the market demand and requirements, and even on the requirements by the network carrier. In the current market, the first and only device to have ICS is the Samsung Galaxy Nexus, which was launched on October 19th, 2011 in Hong Kong. One of the shocker for the Samsung Galaxy users is that one of the most popular smartphones around, the Galaxy S is not in the list of the upgradeable devices, and the entries later to it, i.e. even the Galaxy R are going to get the Android 4.0 update officially.

Ice cream sandwich

Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich is the new version of Android that would take the usage and interface of Android to the next level, making things better with improved multitasking, notifications, better Wi-Fi hotspot options, and one of the best Android web browsers. ICS is also going to have the new People application, where it would help users have something like what it is in the Windows Phone 7 devices. Users can browse pictures, messages, social network updates from the contacts, friends and family members if they are grouped.

We would be updating once we receive any more information about the other Galaxy devices which would be getting the ICS update, after this confirmed list of devices get the OS update available in the next 3 months. Galaxy S II was one of the high-priority devices which always was in the list of the ICS Update list suggested by the developers.
