Samsung Galaxy Ace S5830 Gets Official Gingerbread 2.3.4 Update with DDKQ5

Pre Requisites:

  • As we mentioned that, all the data like Contacts, SMS, Pictures, Songs and Videos will be erased if these are stored in the phone. Kindly don’t backup the data with the help of the KIES as it creates the backup in the (.sbu) format which sometimes has issues in restoring the same as KIES sometimes doesn’t recognize the phone. So, it’s recommended strictly that backup the contacts as well as the SMS by referring the below mentioned links.

Procedure to Backup Contacts,

Procedure to Backup SMS

  • Also, since the APN Settings as well as the MMS Settings too will be lost in the due course of the process of updation, you need to backup / note them as well. APN Settings are responsible for the Internet access while the MMS Settings are responsible for sending the MMS Settings. You can note all these two settings from the path, “Applications > Settings > Wireless and Network > Mobile Networks > Access Point Names”.
  • Ensure that all the Security Solutions like Firewalls, Antivirus and also the KIES application is closed completely till the firmware update is done.
  • It’s very important to ensure that you have the ADMIN privileges before you proceed to update your phone and also the USB port needs to be open which means that it should have the read / write access so that the firmware can be applied successfully.
  • Note that you will have to charge your phone to a minimum of 90% plus so as to ensure that you don’t experience the lesser battery life even after the firmware update. Many users ignore this step which is the root cause on why users face issues of battery backup even after updating with the firmware.
  • Never interrupt the process of firmware update manually, just in case if it gets interrupted by power failure then no need to worry as all you need to do is to just follow the instructions again from the start which are mentioned in the next page.
  • So, in the next page let’s get started with the actual procedure on how you can install the same on your phone. Please note that all the download links are mentioned in the article, so kindly find for the same.

IMPORTANT…!!!….All of you…..While upgrading your Samsung Galaxy Ace to official Gingerbread 2.3.4 through Kies software….Please assure that your Kies has a latest version…if not…..please upgrade it first……then try to upgrade your Ace…..Upgrade your phone only if you are using hi-speed internet through Wi-Fi…..it takes around 1 to 2 hrs (Please keep patience or wait while upgrade)….Do not use any USB broadband internet device as it’s speed is very low for updating your phone through Kies…..if you still getting any message on Kies while updating or it stops…..try again and again till you get the update to your phone….it’s normal…….All the Best…!!!

  38. poresh ch konwar says:

I have upgraded my samsung GT-S5830 to gingerbread-234 and I could not go into recovery mode ,so I reset my mobile using factory reset option.Later when I came to know from this site how to go into recovery mode ,I again re installed and used to clean the data and cache as suggested.I also used My Backup pro to re install my data and applications.
But now battery is getting drained faster and also charging faster,Also I have not seen any appreciable change .
    What could be the reason?

    • colin says:

Did you have over 90% battery life when you did the upgrade as the info states lots of people ignore this and after upgrade it optimizes the battery. If not then your battery could have suffered reduced performance after being optimized on a low battery.

  72. Kairo Quench says:

Hey NeaL I think I know the problems with the “can’t access the recovery menu” or “I clicked the buttons you asked me to and it showed me a different thing” problems . First of all you DON’T need to press Power ON + Volume up + Home Button(Middle Button) . All you need to press is the Power ON + Home Button(Middle Button) . That’s the solution :) Hope this works for all of you guys :)

I have been reading some informations on how to update/upgrade my Galaxy Ace Froyo-DDKC1 to gingerbread and i found out something about rooting the android phone.

If I do the instructions that you have said above. will this also root my phone? or do i still need to follow a different procedure for that?

Do i need to root my phone first so that i can upgrade/update it to gingerbread 2.3 or this will automatically be rooted if I follow your instructions and will also be upgraded/updated to gingerbread?

        Hoping for your quick reply.

Same problem here! I cannot download the DDKQ5, something regarding “page not found” and even though there’s DDKQ6 I read that DDKQ5 is better… your opinion?…
Also I got a a FROYO.UBKD1 / 2.2.1 and I would like to check with you if I can follow all the steps on this post because it seems like my carrier got the phone blocked. I just read that it might be a problem ‘case I’m located on Latin America but I’m not sure… and if you recommend DDKQ5 could you please try to upload the link again :3
Sorry for the questions but I’m new on this :S

Hi, I would like to know if this firmware update is affected by geographical location? ie I’m from south africa and my froyo baseband version is s5830xxkb1, do I not need a xxkb1 gingerbread baseband version, could this affect things like hsdpa availability as I know there are different frequencies for mobile internet in different countries?

    Thank you
