Samsung Galaxy Gio S5660 – Steps to Install XXKS2 Gingerbread 2.3.5 Firmware
For all those who are eagerly waiting to update their Samsung Galaxy Gio S5660 handset can now take out their phones for updating to the latest version of Gingerbread 2.3.5 as in the due course of this article we will see on how you can update your phone. Please note that this is still not pushed from the KIES and also we have no exact ETA on the arrival of the same through KIES. This is the beta firmware but the stock firmware version which won’t root the phone. This update can be applied to any of the Galaxy Gio phone but the only condition being is that the phone should not be network locked device, you can find below on what is network locked device. Also, we have an update from our close sources that soon Gingerbread 2.3.6 for Galaxy Gio S5660 update will be arriving very soon and w will come out with the procedure only at Android Advices. Since it’s a beta release, you will not be able to update using the KIES, we will be using the Odin flash tool to apply this update manually.
What is a network Locked Device:
A network locked device is a device which only works with a particular network. To check whether your phone is a network locked or not, you need to insert sim card of different operator and if the sim card works fine then it’s not a network locked device or else if the sim card doesn’t work then that means the device is a network locked device.
For your simplicity we have broken the article into different pages wherein in this page we will see on what are the list of enhancements this firmware has come along with, list of pre requisites to be followed in the next page and then followed by the list of instructions in the 3rd page.
Disclaimer: We at Android ADVICES have ensured in all respects to ensure that all the information regarding the firmware update is mentioned correctly in this article. We hold no responsibility in any manner just in case if any damage happens to your Samsung Galaxy Tab which is a very unlikely event if you follow the instructions carefully.
Rooting Information:
Please note that just in case if you have already rooted the phone then the phone will lose the root access and after updating the firmware again you need to root the phone of which we will soon come up with the article on how to root the same.
Also, applying this update in your phone doesn’t mean that you will be rooting the phone, since it’s the official beta leak no damage will happen to your device or the warranty too will not be getting void.
List of Pre Requisites:
- Ensure that the battery is charged to the minimum of 70% so as to ensure that the phone doesn’t get turned Off in the process of firmware update.
- All softwares like Antivirus tools, Firewalls and other PC Suites should be completely closed in the computer. Note that you need to have the admin previleges along with the full access Read / Write access should be there in the USB or else the firmware update process will be hampered.
- You need to now take the backup of all the data which is there in your phone so that you can then you can restore the same just in case any data is lost. With the help of the simple tips which are mentioned below you can easily take the backup of the things and can restore the same.
SMS – Use “SMS Backup & Restore app”,
Contacts – Sync with the Gmail application,
Call Log - Call Log and Restore
Images, Songs, Videos, Files – Copy to internal / External SD Card,
APN and MMS Settings – Note down from the path “Applications > Settings > Wireless and Network > Mobile Networks > Access Point Names”
So, now let’s proceed to the next step wherein you can easily follow the steps to update the phone.

Can the galaxy gio be upgraded to ice cream sandwich in the future?
as of now there is no such info but hopefully yes an optimized version may arrive!
my kies says the version i am using is not official…firmware upgrade not supported!!! Is it normal or there is a way to a solution??
But this update procedure is using a different software other than KIES for the firmware update which is included in the pack.
yea you are right…but the last time when i updated my phone to 2.3.4, kies had no problem with it but this time after this update it says that the version is not official. Though not a big deal… anyway just wanted to share! Thanks!!

Can I upgrade to 2.3.5 gingerbread without
loosing the hebrew language that I have in the phone.
Thank You. Very Nice Written.
i have failed to access the mobile network setting portions and so i can’t connect to the network . and i have already installed and upgraded my galaxy gio gt-s5660. i have inserted the simcard to properly.

“volume down+home” srsly ?
I did this and it almost bricked my phone, it didn’t wanted to boot again !!!!!! I had to remove the battery to make it work again !!!!
It should be fine, this is how you put the phone into download mode, it’s actually partially a security feature to prevent firmware modding by malicious programs and such. Almost all Andriod devices have this feature adn I think it’s the same for all sammies.
What if the mobile phone is network locked? Does the update fail?
update will be done but the operator specific apps will be lost!
Sounds like a plus to me :p Loosing all that bloat-ware that wastes memory space!!
When i try to open recovery mode, an image comes to screen which tells that phone doesn’t connected to pc..
I cant open my phone.
Any suggestions?
are you trying to connect through kies?
Well, that doesn’t bother me at all. Thanks mate

THANK YOU AGAIN IN ADVANCE
no, you can directly apply the update!
Hi Pradeep,
Many thanks for this ! I succesfully updated to 2.3.5.
With this version I seem to have some issues with ‘freezing’ wifi.
I get a message (in Dutch) saying WiFi Error.
After that I’m unable to scan for WiFi networks. After reboot it works again.
Does anyone else have the same problems ?
Could 2.3.4 be better ?
Regard,
Rob
have you tried clearing the cache?
I tried clearing the cache last Friday. I’m didn’t get the WiFi error again, but I notice that
when I have WiFi on, the phone reboots now and then with a (NO SERVICE) message.
It will rescan the SD-card and after that everything is fine again.
A bit annoying though. If searched and there are more people with 2.3.5 who have this issue.
If fixed it ! It’s the roms fault !
I found a comment on XDA where someone suggested using XXKS5 instead of XXKS2.
I did and no more reboots with WiFi on ! It’s on for 20+ hours now.
It’s Russian firmware, but you can easily change the language in settings.
Worked like a charm I must say, just remember to backup any programs and such before doing this and write down your provider info. Afterwards cleared the cache, reseted to factory standards (menu button + power, not with volume) and instantly rooted it aswell to gain full acces and power over my device. So far it seems to work like a charm, thanks for the clear tutorial!
thanks sander for your feedback!

now i want to upgraded it to 2.3.5 but it doesn’t & remain stuck at mbib or some thing
the problem my phone have now is that it only installs 2.3.4 no other firmware

PLEASE HELP!!! ODIN STUCK ON AMSS DOWNLOAD!!!!!!!!!
PLEASE HELP ME!!!!!!!!! STUCK AT DOWNLOADING RECOVERY IMAGE!!!!!!!!!!!! IM WORRIED
reinsert the battery and then apply the update!
Just copy all files to a root directory(like C:) on the same computer. Then run Odin and follow the updating step as in instruction.(If you have win 7, then run Odin as administrator).
I had same problems and following this instruction recovered my phone from almost dead state. Good luck!
