Samsung Galaxy S GT I9000 – Steps to Install Ice Cream Sandwich Android 4.0 Alpha Firmware

Advisory: This update should only be applied to the smart phones which is having the model number as “Samsung Galaxy S GT I9000”. If you apply this update in any other phones then the phones will be bricked for which we should not be held responsible. Also, this update should not be applied to the phones which are network locked devices as it will lock the phone again just in case if you have unlocked. This update should not be applied to any other phones apart from this even if they have similar phone model numbers like I9000B or I9000T etc.

Galaxy S ICS LogoIce cream Sandwich update will arrive to all the phones which are supporting the Gingerbread 2.3 was the statement by Google Inc. when it had unveiled the Ice Cream Sandwich 4.0 which is the latest version of Android OS for smart phones after the Gingerbread release which was 2.3 version. If you are just thinking on why honeycomb 3.1 will not be arriving for the smart phones then the reason is that Honeycomb is a tablet specific Android version and doesn’t support the mobile phones or say smart phones. So, coming back to the point, we will see in the due course of the article on how you can install the latest alpha build of the Ice Cream Sandwich on your Samsung Galaxy S GT I9000.

This article will be of great help for all the users who are developers and want to try something new. It’s barely a month after the release of the Ice cream sandwich Android OS and we are here with a article which is the alpha release for the Samsung Galaxy S. This is a proof that Samsung Galaxy S GT I9000 is indeed one of the phones which will be receiving the ICS 4.0 sooner than later.

ICS on Samsung Galaxy S

Caution: This article is not for the basic users and is only recommended for the advanced level users or the developers. Though we have taken extreme measures so as to make this article as simple as possible that even a starter can follow it, it’s highly recommended to follow all the instructions properly or else you may also end up bricking up the phone.

Over a period of this article we will see on what are the list of pre requisites followed by the list of things which work in the alpha release of the ice cream Sandwich and then the procedure to apply this ICS alpha build in your Galaxy S GT I9000.

Do I really have to downgrade to XXJVT? I already have XXJVU installed. And does it compatible if i backup using CWM on XXJVU and then restore on ICS? if not, how do you backup the apps with its data if you’re suggesting? And does it take more RAM?

    Hi Neal,

After installing 2.3.5 XXJVS GB on my I9000, battery is getting drained drastically.
I have to charge 3 times a day (which is very discusting). I am using the same apps as before upgrading from froyo
Earlier i was on 2.2 FROYO, then i used to get battery life for 2 days (even with all the apps running).
Can you plz help me with this.

    ok,
I’m a bit new to this and had this query about the naming conventions of the firmwares like XXJVP / XXJVQ / XXJVR etc. Could someone explain me what exactly is this naming convention and who are producing these firmwares. And how many firmwares are there for galaxy S GT I 9000. I mean besides the samsung’s own current 2.2. 2.3.2 versions.

    Neal
    what does this mean?
Lock screen, touch screen sensors and the correct screen resolution are the only things which are working in this Port. No application works but the back key as well as the menu key works.
