Samsung Galaxy S GT I9000 – Steps to install ICS Android 4.0.1 Build 10 Firmware

Galaxy S ICS New logoIn a season of ICS Android 4.0 updates, seems like Galaxy S GT I9000 users are no way behind when compared in terms of updates received. So, on the similar lines we will see in the due course of this article to update your device with an all new Build 10 of ICS Android 4.0.1 update. Please note that this update is not an official release pushed by Samsung Electronics. Just few days back we saw on Build 5 as well as Build 8.

Note: Please note that this is not a Full-fledged version and is a test version. Just in case if you are eager to try this out you can but it’s not a full-fledged working version of firmware.

So, before we proceed let’s check out on what are the Highlights of this firmware Build 10 of ICS.

Highlights of Build 10 ICS 4.0.1 Firmware:
Known Issues in Build 10:

  • 720p Video Recording laggy
  • Camera does not support scene modes
  • FM Radio does not work.
  • Face Unlock does not work BUILD 10+ need new GApps
  • Phone unnecessarily gets data connection on device encryption password enter screen.
  • Cannot format external SD (Can format SD CARD in FAT 32)
  • Sometimes duplicates listing of external SD files in the media database
  • Battery usage display higher than normal.
  • Sometime wrong SMS selected for forwarding
  • Format internal instead of external SD when requested to format ext. SD
  • Transfer speed slows down when screen off
  • Cannot authenticate new apps for root
  • Data sometimes get disabled on boot

Issues which are Solved in Build 10:

  • No hardware composition (but hardware acceleration works)
  • Video recording does not work.
  • Video playback is not hardware-accelerated.
  • The front camera produces distorted preview.
  • Photo taking does not work with the front camera.
  • Some camera options FC. (The camera is a temporary hack, when the Nexus S ICS source is released, there will be a proper fix.)
  • Movie Studio does not work.
  • Wi Fi automatically turns on after quitting airplane mode if Wi Fi was used during airplane mode.
  • Data Roaming is enabled by default

    As of now, the latest build is build 14 (by the way, this version of ICS is running CM9, so you’ll find a couple of extra features which aren’t there on stock android but existed on touchwiz like the the wifi, gps, bluetooth buttons on the notification bar and you’ll also have the ability to choose your homescreen, and the number of homescreens as a feature of CM9, apart from that its pretty much stock ICS like on the galaxy nexus).

    If I updated a custom ROM, then I didn’t like.
    Can I downgrade to a firmware stock ROM?

    found some bugs
    1.Video recording lags both in 720p and 480p.
    2.No video zoom.
    3.In the app TITANIUM BACKUP,it fails to get root access so no backup or restore options works.
    4.Gallery quit unexpectedly.
    5.Avi and Flv video formats are not supported like FROYO and GINGERBREAD(The final version should have all those video decoders like AVI,FLV,MKV etc

    Currently I have rooted Gingerbread 2.3.4 XXJVP with custom kernel (speedmod k15i-t13). Can I just install CM9 over this or do i have to install 2.3.5 XXJVT first?

    Neal, thanks for the updates, you do a great job. For now I will stay on XXJVT as this works very, very well. I do, however, welcome all your updates on ICS for I9000 and I look forward to having a stable version of ICS from you in the not to distant future.

    Hi Neel,

    I am now on Cynegeon Build 8. Do I need to go back to XXJVT, ROOT XXJVT and then install this version. Or Can I directly instal Build 10 over Build 8. Pls advise.

    This all are for Rooted device not like the firmware updates on non-rooted device. when SGS i9000 will get ICS updates likes Google Nexus and all.

    None of any version support Urdu language in S GT I9000, like any sms in Urdu, any wording in Urdu on FB etc etc. Do you have any patah ?

    Hi i decided to install build 8 today and its really nice. the video camera dont work and same issues with external sd but hey its good. 1 question can i preceed to install this from build 8 or do i need to revert back to another firmware ie jvz rooted.

      its actually really good the video camera does work in this. the only issue is the ex sd card for my music but winamp finds it easy. so really good work cant wait for next release.
