Galaxy S I9000

Samsung Galaxy S GT I9000 – Steps to install ICS Android 4.0.1 Build 13 Firmware

Procedure to Update Galaxy S with Build 13 of ICS Android 4.0 Firmware:

  • First up you need to be on the rooted firmware, you can probably update with the XXJVU firmware and then you can root the same from the below mentioned links.

Procedure to Update Galaxy S with XXJVU 2.3.6 Firmware,

Procedure to Root Galaxy S with XXJVU 2.3.6 Firmware,

  • Enable the USB Debugging in your device from the path “Settings > Applications > Development > USB debugging”. The USB Debugging option should be ticked in your phone.

USB Debugging

  • Assuming that you are now on the rooted firmware, you now need to Download ICS Build 13 Package, Google Apps along with the Face Unlock Package from here to your computer.
  • Up next, copy all of these 3 Zip packages in your phone by connecting device to computer using USB cable. Disconnect the phone which is connected from the computer and then turn Off the device so as to enter into recovery mode.
  • The recovery mode can be entered by “Pressing Volume Up key+ Menu Key + Power ON the device”. Once you enter into the recovery mode, you need to select “Wipe data/factory reset” & “Wipe Cache partition” so that this will clear the cache which is there in your device.

  • In recovery mode, select “install zip from sd card” > “choose zip from sd card” after which you need to select the ICS Android 4.0 Build 13 Package, Google Apps & Face Unlock Feature package one after other in the mentioned order.

recovery mode

  • It will take up to 8 minutes to finish the process of updation. Once the device is updated successfully, you will again land up on the recovery mode.
  • In recovery mode select “Wipe data/factory reset” & “Wipe Cache partition” so that this will clear the cache after which select “++++ Go Back ++++” and select “reboot system now” which will restart the Galaxy S.
  • At any point of time if the process gets stuck at any stage or say if the phone get in the reboot loop, you need to reinsert the battery and apply the update once again for updating with this version successfully.

Congratulations, you are now on the latest ICS Android 4.0 Build 13 firmware. Do let us know if you face any issues as we will try our level best to address the same.

    Hi Neela,
I updated my SGS GT I9000 with this FW. It is giving very good look and performance but with some minor issues like the apps Youtube, Music, are not working. They worked in the beginning for some time, but later stopped!

By the way, I experimented the FW updated xxjvu2.3.6 through the Mobile Odin successfully! First I downloaded the xxjvu2.3.6 package from this site, then unzipped and copied to the phone the .tar file meant for the PDA only and flashed using the Mobile Odin. I have only the free version of the app and so the device updated without rooting.

    Thanks,
    Mahmud k

My phone (I9000) is rooted and I have been flashing my phone with different roms but just had to use Odin to change my modem back to KG3 so it would work on Bell. Can’t I just do the same with this rom?

    January 13, 2012 at 1:38 am

After the update I’m having trouble connecting to the Bell network. My phone will connect in some spots but it dropped in other spots that it wasn’t dropped before. Could this be something wrong with my APN that would have been changed or something else in the phone?

    Thanks

    Hi There,

I seem to have some problems with accessing downloads at the moment. This does not seem to be a specific download, perhaps superseded, but more a generic problem. I have attempted to download a number of I9000 and I9100 firmwares but failed on all of them. I have never had this problem previously.

Please keep up the good work as I greatly enjoy the articles, and greatly enjoy being able to modify my phone.

    Thanks
    Mark

    January 10, 2012 at 2:10 pm

    Hi Neela,
Why can’t you make FWs suitable to be updated via Mobile Odin?

    Thank you,
    Mahmud K

    • Pradeep Neela

      January 13, 2012 at 10:16 am

we can’t make firmwares as its developed by the developers, they need to make it compatible!

  26. Mahmud Koya

    January 10, 2012 at 12:06 pm

“Also, according to the sources we understand that very soon a new stock version of value pack for Galaxy S will be coming which may be dubbed as XXJVV or XXJVW Android 2.3.6 version. We will be covering the same at the earliest.”

Is the expected one not the value pack XXJVU 2.3.6 which you already published? But what are these updates about, most of them do not bring any change to the device’s performance except may be some changes in numbers and letters in FW names! If any graphics and apps are added, those can be downloaded from the Market, not necessarily required to go long tedious precess of updating.
Mr. Neela, if you experts can tailor FW that can be updated via the Mobile Odin, it will be much easier and time saving.

Thanks a lot for your usual supports.

Would it be possible to have a list of features (or the lack of since this is still not the stable build) of the XXJVU 2.3.6 Firmware and this ICS Android 4.0.1 Build 13 Firmware?

It’ll help in the decision whether to flash the upgrade or just wait a little longer.

Found an issue with the music player.
Once you run the stock music player on ics 4.0.3 build 13,it works well untill you save a playlist then reboot your phone, and after the reboot once you try to open the stock music app it doesn’t work untill you clear all data for the stock music app from the app manager option.
