Android 4.1.2 is the upgraded version to the recently received Android 4.1 Jelly Bean and this update were been pushed to the users worldwide. Google Nexus 7 tablet received this update last week itself and receiving this update to Galaxy Nexus was expected. While going through the update, it’s mainly a bug fix update with some other tweaks included with it. One thing reported by several users is that the users now expand and collapse the notifications with swipe of one finger gesture opposed to two finger gesture required earlier. Another feature which users can find after updating their device is the auto rotation support for the home screen and lock screen. Apart from that as a regular stuff, this update provides improved performance improvements and user interface is still more minimalistic.
Users should remember that this update is only for the unlocked version of the Galaxy Nexus but not any other variant which are based on the CDMA carriers. So the Galaxy Nexus phone on the Sprint or Verizon will not be able to get this update and they might receive this update in the coming weeks.
How to Update
Android 4.1.2 to the GSM Galaxy Nexus owner is pushed via Over the Air update and the file size of this update is not too large but still it’s recommended that you should update while you are connected to a WI Fi network in your area. Many users have received the update notification on their device and if you have received such, you just need to follow the onscreen instructions to apply the updates to Android 4.1.2. Your phone will be restarted automatically and you will see the Android 4.1.2 new features added.
Alternatively if you have not received the update notification then you should check for the update manually. One can proceed to Settings > About Phone > Software Update and then tap on Check Now to know whether update is available or not. Your phone then will be connected to the Google server and reply will soon come down. Once the message is received, you need to tap on Download. Once the files are downloaded, you will be prompted to Install the updates. Your phone will be restarted automatically and the updates will be applied. Make sure that for the first time on Android 4.1.2 booting period will be little longer.
