We all know the rivalry between the South Korean Giant Samsung and the iPhone maker Apple. Galaxy Note 4 is the flagship device in the Note series whereas Apple was delighted to release two variants of iPhone this year called as one being at 4.7 inches and other is at 5.5. Both are some seriously powerful devices and let us compare these devices and see how they stand up with each other. Both the devices were released almost at the same time and stand as competition to each other in the market now.
Talking about the iPhone 6 plus, on the front it has a 5.5” 1080P display, a front-facing camera, a home button which also acts as a touch ID which is a fingerprint scanner to unlock the device. To the right it has the ON / OFF Switch and the SIM Card slot while on the left are the Volume Rockers along with the Mute Switch. On the Top, there’s nothing where in the earlier models we had the sleep / wake switch. At the bottom we have a 3.5mm headphone jack, the lightning charger, speaker and a microphone. On the back, there is the 8 MP camera with a dual LED flash and a microphone.
Coming to the display, the Note 4 has a 5.7” Quad HD Display, A 3.7 MP Front-facing camera, a home button which also acts as a fingerprint scanner. And two capacitive buttons which are for back and the menu. To the left are the volume rockers, on the right is the power key and on the top is a 3.5 mm headset jack and an IR Blaster. On the bottom is the USB 2.0 micro USB port with the S – Pen. On the back, there is a 16 MP Camera with a heart and heart rate monitor.
The design is much better on the Note 4 which is mature with the leather back and the grip which makes it comfortable to use while that’s not the case with the iPhone 6 plus which feels slippery and is in a need of a case all the time for better grip.
The Note 4 comes with a Quad HD Display while there is a 1080p display on the iPhone 6 plus which is a major difference considering that you spend a lot of time on the screen but the fact remains that there is not much media available for this display making it kind of pointless. The Display is sharp on the Note 4 and looks great even in outdoor conditions but it does need a lot of processing for which the Snapdragon 805 processor would support which on a contrary does heat up a bit. The iPhone 6 plus’s display is 1080 P which is a great upgrade for iPhone users considering that its the highest quality display from Apple which is good but cannot compete with the Note 4 in terms of numbers.
The Note 4 features a 3GB of Ram along with Adreno 402 GPU, 3220 mAh battery, microSD expansion, Snapdragon 805 Processor with a fingerprint scanner. The iPhone 6 Plus features an Apple A8 64 Bit processor which is a dual-core processor, 1GB RAM, 8MP Camera with OIS along with a 2915 mAh battery and NFC for Apple Pay. In terms of comparison of specifications you can clearly conclude that the Note 4 is the best in terms of hardware and numbers but that’s not what counts in the real world comparison where the experience matters and that where iPhone 6 plus can definitely keep up.
The Note 4 features Android 4.4.4 and would soon be upgraded to Android 5.0 along with the TouchWiz Skin on it. The Note 4 does has some interesting features like a Magazine from the home which is powered with Flipboard and the UI is very simple to use for a first timer and the extended notifications panel gives you access to all the shortcuts right from the top. The Note comes with more S Pen features like the Smart Select, which is very impressive in case yo want to select any content quickly, edit and share it. The S health is another important feature which is now powered with a coach though that the software, but still helps in improving your health.
The iPhone 6 plus is great in terms of the optimization where you would never feel any lags, but the fact is that there is a very little room available for customizations. I use a few widgets on my daily driver which is an Android, and that is what is missing here. In terms of the features, we have the Unlock by Touch ID and Apple Pay which I guess won’t be of any use at least in India. The iPhone 6 plus does come up with a larger keyboard which helps in easily getting a few tasks done like cut, copy and paste but does not compete with the advanced functions which the note offers. Along with this there’s a new reach ability feature which is of great use for people who would like to access the content on the top of the screen while using the iPhone with one hand.
The Note 4 comes with a 16 MP sensor with OIS and the camera is just mind blowing, we had captured a lot of photos with not just the rear but also with the 3.7 MP Front camera which does its job in a good way. The 4K Video mode is also pretty cool, and the device does not get hanged or the recording stops which were the case in the Galaxy S5 may be thanks to the Exynos processor on that one. Samsung has always been giving nice cameras that at times are over saturated, but thanks to the AMOLED displays the captures also look great at least on the device. There’s a lot of detail in the captures for sure.
The iPhone 6 plus has still the 8 MP Camera but is amazing with the large one 3rd inch sensor with Optical Image Stabilization, which is just available on the six plus and not the 6. The 240 FPS is the best feature of the camera recording the videos in 720p and 60 FPS 1080p Video.
Both on the cameras are great at least for sharing the content on Social media but if you are looking for detail in the captures then, the Note 4 wins with the Quad HD Display.
Battery on the Note 4 is 3220 mAh and the iPhone 6 plus is 2900 mAh and both of them had almost the same battery with both of them ending up around a day and a half with pretty high usage clearly pointing out that the battery is pretty good on both of these.
The hardware is great on the Note 4 except the fact that both the Heart Rate & Finger Print Scanner are gimmicky and don’t give you the experience that you expect from them. I hope that the Touchwiz is completely removed from the Note 4 when the Android L is out or may be some better stock like experience is provided on this device. I also would have clearly suggested you the Note 4 if the device supported Slo-mo videos like the iPhone 6 plus.
Talking about the iPhone 6 plus it’s the biggest iPhone ever but still not all the applications are optimized yet for the larger display. It clearly has a great camera especially the OIS that helps in getting great footage. Overall if I have to decide between the both, I would go for the Note 4 considering that the price is a bit on the lower side, the features are on the higher side when compared and the only feature I would miss is the Slo-mo.
