Samsung Galaxy S3 vs Galaxy S3 Mini Phone Comparison Specs & Features

The Small vs Big comparison would end with the larger one being a clear winner most of the times, but this time with the Samsung guys bringing out Galaxy S3 Mini with quite a few similarities to the Galaxy S3, we have quite a few things where having a cheaper and smaller S3 Mini is good enough when compared to the larger sibling. Though we haven’t got a hands-on of the Galaxy S3 Mini, we are comparing both based on the specifications of the devices, and that’s where you would see the actual differences because Samsung has been smart enough to launch a smartphone’s Mini version with the same interface.

Let’s get into every main aspect and see how both fare:

Design, Dimensions and Display

The Galaxy S III Mini has got a 4.0-inch capacitive touchscreen, compared to the 4.8-inch one of the S III. Both have the Super AMOLED display with the larger version having a corning gorilla glass for protection, while the pixel density in the S3 Mini is quite lesser, being 223 PPI while S3 has 306 PPI. With the greater pixel density and a larger screen resolution of 720 x 1280 pixels, the Galaxy S3 holds a better edge over the Galaxy S3 Mini with the 480 x 800 pixel screen resolution.

Dimensions of Galaxy S III – 136.6 x 70.6 x 8.6 mm, weight 133 g
Dimensions of Galaxy S III Mini – 121.55 x 63 x 9.85 mm, weight 111.5 g

Processor and Operating System

A major downgrade, and we are not totally how sure the S3 Mini would be able to handle the heavy interface with its dual-core processor with speeds clocking at 1GHz, while the S3 has a quad-core processor with 1.5GHz speed able to handle any multitask load. Samsung hasn’t done any changes in the operating system and interface, as the Galaxy S3 had the Android 4.0 during launch and now most of the devices are updated to Android 4.1 Jelly Bean, and the Mini is coming in with the latest 4.1 Jelly Bean OS, with the same TouchWiz enhanced interface.

The Samsung Galaxy S III has got the 8-Megapixel camera with Autofocus and a LED flash, with a video capture capability at 1080p HD quality, while the S III Mini has a 5-Megapixel camera with Autofocus and a LED flash, with 720p quality video capture.
Both the devices have the front camera, but the larger variant has a better front cam at 1.9-megapixel quality and able to capture 720p videos, while the Mini has the basic VGA front camera which is not better than for just the video chatting. The features of the camera, like the face detection, image stabilization etc. would be seen in both the phones.

Network and Connectivity

The Galaxy S III has support for the HSDPA and HSUPA network along with the Wi-Fi a/b/g/n and Bluetooth 4.0 technology, while keeping the Bluetooth and Wi-Fi at the same levels, the network support is only for the HSPA network, indicating it is a 3G device.

Memory and Battery

The Galaxy S3 Mini would have the internal memory of 16GB, and the maximum storage after expanding with the MicroSD card is 32GB. May be that is the maximum the phone’s internal specs like processor and RAM can hold, but the S3 larger version comes in 16 and 32GB versions, and this can be expanded to a whooping 64GB storage using the MicroSD card. The Galaxy S3 Mini has a better battery when compared to the level of specifications and battery capacity of the Galaxy S3, as the 1500 mAh of the Mini against the 2100 mAh of the larger device is better when the screen size, camera and the processor are all kept quite low in specs.

The special features of both the devices would be the same – Smart Stay, Direct All, Wi-Fi Direct, NFC through S Beam etc. but what we wanted to compare is the external specifications and the actual stuff that one would look at, before choosing a device to purchase.
There is no confirmation about the pricing of the Galaxy S III Mini but we are pretty sure it would fall into the list of mid-range devices by Samsung, and if that happens, we would call the Mini a winner as no one would purchase the S3 just for the better camera and larger screen.
