Samsung Galaxy Tab 2 10.1 vs Galaxy Note 10.1 Tablets Comparison

At Mobile World Congress, Samsung announced the sibling of Galaxy Note, so called phone + tablet combo. Samsung intention of launching Galaxy Note 10.1 was pretty clear that they want to succeed in the tablet market. Samsung also admitted that they are struggling to make in roads in space when it comes to market share in tablets. Samsung with Galaxy Tab brand have fallen far behind iPad by Apple and Kindle Fire by Amazon has surpassed Samsung too.

With Samsung intention very clear after conquering the Android smartphone market, Samsung products double impact with successor of Galaxy Tab 10.1 announced in the form of Galaxy Tab 2 10.1 and sibling of Galaxy Note is born in the form of Galaxy Note 10.1. Both the products are new and these products were first spotted at Mobile World Congress 2012.

Both Galaxy Tab 2 10.1 and Galaxy Note 10.1 have similar form factor and sizes. The Galaxy Note 10.1 in particular is very thin with 8.9 mm thickness and weights 583 grams. The latter one weights 588 grams and has thickness of 9.7 mm.

Coming to the screen size both the tablets are with 10.1 inches display screen. For the first time Samsung hasn’t powered these tablets with Super AMOLED display which is something surprise to us. Probably Samsung has reason behind that and we will let you know about it at the end of this comparison. The 10.1 inches screen in both the tablets can deliver a 1080p HD video playback and it will not hinder your day to day to life usage but its Super AMOLED that users will miss.

We in phase where we see devices coming out with quad core processor and even Samsung does have plan to introduce quad core phones in the second quarter this year but again to surprise of all, both Galaxy Note 10.1 and Galaxy Tab 2 10.1 will be seen with dual core processor in action. Though dual core processor its not the latest one in the market, it’s quite efficient enough to provide quick response time and handle multiple operations together. Galaxy Note 10.1 outfaces Galaxy Tab 2 10.1 easily with 1.4 Ghz dual core processor as the latter one has just 1 Ghz dual core processor. Though you will not figure out much difference between the two tablets, it’s just the matter of comparison that we have put it up here Galaxy Note 10.1 the winner.

Both the tablets have 3 mega pixel rear side camera to take photos and the major differences comes in the front facing camera. Though front facing camera is not an important parameter to really judge a winner in comparison, Galaxy Note with 2 mega pixel outdoes Tab 2. Infact Samsung has downgraded the Tab 10.1 upgraded version to VGA instead of 1.3 mega pixel spotted on the original tablet earlier. Both tablets come with the features of auto focus and geo tagging and able to record HD video at 720p along with 30 fps. Galaxy Note 10.1 comes with LED Flash.

When you come to Android tablets especially when they are more powerful and faster, storage becomes the essential aspect. The Galaxy Note in terms of internal storage capacity provided it has the variants of 16 Gb/32 Gb/64 Gb internal storage. Galaxy Tab 2 10.1 is missing the highest 64 Gb option and it comes with basic 16 Gb and 32 Gb variant. However, there is no need to worry about the storage capacities as Samsung has provided a micro SD card slot for both the tablets by which users can pump in extra memory via micro SD card up to maximum of 32 GB in size.

The TouchWiz Live Panel UX comes with user interface with fully customizable widgets and mini applications for multi tasking and also presents a redefined Samsung Media Hub services. This interface provides a Live Panel which is like magazine widget view to provide immediate access to weather, news, photo gallery, home screen and social updates. TouchWiz user interface provide mini mode tray which provides one touch access to commonly used applications like Task Manager, Calendar, World Clock, Pen Memo, Calculator and Music.

It’s really good to see Samsung devices with TouchWiz Live Panel UX and Galaxy Note 10.1 in particular looks a perfect tablet.

Once again Galaxy Tab 2 101, and Note 10.1 specifications matches perfectly. Samsung following the present day industry trends it has provided both the tablet with 7,000 mAh battery. Exactly we are not sure how long would this battery last but we are sure that users would be able to power up the tablet for continuous one day life work outs of S Pen photo edition, adding notes and others.

Data Connectivity

With host of options available for Data connectivity and internet access on both the tablets, they have got similar specifications and features. Since both the tablets comes with Android 4.0 pre installed, there is the option of Wi Fi Direct which allows users to transfer the file from one smart devices to another faster using the Wi Fi transmission, Android Beam allowing users to tap and share content, music, videos and photos easily. Along with that users can make use of the Bluetooth 3.2 with A2DP.

Release Date & Price

Samsung has just announcement these tablets ensuring that users gets a hang of it during the Mobile World Congress. The fact that iPad 3 release is round the corner, Samsung announced two tablets and both of them will be made available in the second quarter itself. There is no information available on the pricing information of these tablets, however we can presume that Galaxy Note 10.1 will be priced higher than the Tab 2 10.1 as Samsung decided to stay away from having a high end hardware enhancements in the upgraded version of Tab 10.1 so that it can sell the product for a low price.

While Galaxy Tab 2 10.1 is just the refreshment from the earlier Galaxy Tab 10.1, Galaxy Note 10.1 in particular is worth to see the new features added. Galaxy Note 10.1 introduces S Pen stylus which can be used for taking notes, highlighting, editing pictures and much more.

      I am using a 10.1 note. I couldn’t ask for anything more. Hooked it up to a bluetooth mini-keyboard and mouse. When I log in to a remote desktop using vmware viewer….my friends go green with jealousy….haha! they think I have a really small p.c

    Why they didn’t made a slot in the Galaxy Note 10.1 for the Spen like the little brother has???? If it was because of the Spen size why they didn’t made a pen like the little brother has???

    And where do we suppossed to put that pen??? I have to carry it in my pocket/bag/porse soo i can loose it??? Why they didn’t made a slot in the Samsung Galaxy Note 10.1 like the little brother???? Some say because it is a difrent pen (to big)… but why they didn’t make a pen with the same size as the little brother’s pen?????

        Dude?!! R u REALLY sure you reviewed both products ‘hands on’??? There is a slot on the bottom left corner of the Note 10.1 that houses the S Pen. That slot also has a sensor meaning that it can turn on the device and start any app of your choice as soon as you take out the S Pen. So noo, as long as you remember to put the S Pen back in it’s slot – you won’t lose it.

        Yogesh, i really respect that you are prepared to blog on an open forum, but at least get your facts straight before you post a review! Really!

        Dude?!! What r u talking about? Both have SIM slots and come with a phone app installed so yes you can make phone calls on them.
