Yesterday when my Local Area Network was down at my home, I didn’t had the internet connectivity and it then came to my mind why not use my mobile internet 3G or 4G to access internet on my PC. Since I had an Android mobile phone, I quickly ran through in search of Android application which will perfectly do it and since a PC doesn’t have Bluetooth or Wi Fi accessibility in built, I was just looking for the ways by which I can share my mobile internet with the PC using the USB cable. I was sure its possible and thanks to USB Tethering/ Tether Android application by Droid.Apps which made it possible for me to quickly setup USB tethering. We did go through process on how to setup USB tethering using PDAnet but that was a long process of manual steps.

USB tethering/Tether is an Android application which is developed by Droid.Apps, allowing users to share the phone internet on your pc or notebook. It establishes the connection so quickly as soon as you connect to your phone. Developer says that as soon as you connect your phone to the notebook or netbook this application will be automatically popup and within a click you are ready to share internet.

As soon as you install this application on your mobile phone, and run it, will open the direct menu for you. The menu contains three icons which are ‘How to install USB Tethering driver’, ‘Enable USB Tethering’ and ‘Unmount/mount SD card’. The option of How to install USB tethering driver will show you detailed instructions on how you can enable USB tethering on your Windows 7 or Windows XP or any other based PC or laptop.Quick USB Tether

The option of Unmount/mount SD card option is meant if the USB connector is not detected and using the unmount SD card it will work out for you.Quick USB Tether

There is the option of USB tethering frame automatically which is for the pro version of this application.

This application is also meant for portable WiFi hotspot, Bluetooth tethering and option to configure portable WiFi hotspot. Let me remind you that you will be charged accordingly to your telecom operator standard charges for Wi Fi tethering and USB tethering accordingly. For telecom operators in India, they don’t charge any additional amount and you will be just charged for data used via internet on your PC according to your 2G or 3G plans.

Hi all, I have an update on the Tether Charges. Vodafone in Australia cancelled the 28c/mb additonal cost as of March 28! The staff have confirmed that this is true on the VF Community Forum.

The use of thethering will be dedeucted from your plan data allocation.

Great article. Simple compared with other android review sites.

One thing you forgot to state was that some Phone Plan Providers WILL charge additional costs outside of the usual plan id you use tethering.

I know that Vodafone DOES charge extra costs with the Infinity Plan in Australia.

Is that charges for USB tether and WiFi tether as well?

Great article especially with what can appear to be quite complicated as expressed in other android revierw sites.

One thing that the editor of this article failed to list a disclaimer about the RISK OF YOUR PHONE PROVIDER CHARGING YOU ADDITIONAL COSTS TO USE TETHERING.

I a aware that Vodafone DOES charge additional costs with the Infinity Plan in Australia.

Hey I heard somewhere that some service providers blocked tethering apps as they can’t detect data usage when tethered. It’s not blocked in India or anything. Does it mean free 3G if tethered?

I worked for few days recently when my LAN was down and it worked very accurately without any errors. Yes, obvious that you will be charged for internet access accordingly to your 2G or 3G plans but there is no tethering charges whatsoever by any telecom operator unlike its there in US.
