Android 4.4 KitKat has started rolling for the Sony Xperia Z1, Sony Xperia Z Ultra and also for Sony Xperia Z1 compact. Sony has decided to roll out the update only for its Z series devices and this updates will be bringing will be many performance tweaks with new UI and other new features. The Z1 compact came out of the box running on Android 4.3 Jelly Bean and the Sony Xperia Z Ultra and Xperia Z1 got their Android 4.3 Jelly Bean update in the end of last year (December).
This update to the devices brings performance and UI (User Interface optimization) for better and easier use. The update also brings tweaks to the Status Bar and Quick settings in the Smart phone making them more intuitive and can also be customizable. Another major feature is bringing the home screen similar to the PlayStation 4 with sleek launch animations and live wallpapers across the lock screen of the device.
The Android 4.4 KitKat update has also bought some tweaks for messages, improving the current experience for messaging, MyXperia, Smart Connect, Small apps, TrackID, TrackID TV, Sony Select, Smart Social Camera and much more. You can also see a better and intuitive UI and improved download speeds in the Sony’s Media application like Walkman, Album and Movies with Sony Entertainment Network cloud service integration. You will also get Xperia Themes with downloadable UI pack from Sony Select. There are some Major Tweaks and features that this update has bought to the Z series of Smart phones.
In the blog the company also said that they have been working to build new Sony experiences on the new Android KitKat release to make some neat and sweet features with some additional performance tweaks here and there. It was also mentioned that Sony will be rolling the Android 4.4 KitKat update for the Xperia Z, Xperia ZL, Xperia tablet Z and Xperia ZR from the second quarter of this year. Moreover they also said that the KitKat update for Xperia T2 Ultra, Xperia E1 and Xperia M2 will be coming out soon but they did not mention any time frame.
