The Sony Xperia Ion was solely meant for the launch in United States exclusively via AT & T only. As announced earlier that Xperia Ion ST28i along with Xperia S by Sony would be coming to AT & T in North America but we have learnt that the same device would be available via Rogers in Canada as well.
The 4.55 inches device is ready to join the party of Canadian carriers as the history suggest and it would be a LTE enabled smartphones as well. It has been hinted that it would be available via Rogers, Bell and Telus and it would be Rogers who would be the front runner.
Powered with 1.5 Ghz Qualcomm dual core processor and 12 mega pixel camera on the rear side along with 1900 mAh battery the device would go on for sale via AT & T in United States from June 24th ever since it is announced in December last year along with Xperia S. It would be costing $ 99.99 upfront payment along with the two years contract from AT & T.
The AT & T would supply this device with Android 2.3 Gingerbread OS and further after few week it would release out Android 4.0 ICS update via OTA but suggested that it would come with Android ICS pre-installed on the device itself in Canada regardless of the carrier. So this means that it would be another two to three weeks for the launch in Canada. We don’t understand why Sony takes so much time in releasing the device once they are announced. For them the key would be release the device as soon as possible once they are announced.
The device is with very good specifications especially in the camera section and in the display as well. It would see 16 GB of internal memory along with a micro SD card slot expanding up to 32 GB of size. Interestingly micro SD card slot is absent in Xperia S smartphone and so this would be a great addition. It would further support NFC for making mobile payments at accepted retailers and for transferring files, content easily with just tap and share. We would let you know more about it when the launch date is very near until then wait and watch.
