  1. Thank you thank you thank you!! I ended having 6500 contacts, with most duplicated up to 20 times! This article helped me allot: thank you!!

  2. Hello,
I too have the clear data greyed out. This article though informative was very poorly written, Hard to read and follow.
This website has so many ads its hard to read and load. Poor on both fronts.

  3. The “Clear data” is gray and inoperable. So frustrating. I even downloaded a special “Delete Contacts” app and it keeps shutting off. I despise my Android.

    • Look for MiniContacts at Google Play store (Android 3.0+): it allows you to delete any contact easily, even by groups with one click (for example all those originated by gmail or by LinkedIn).
But remember to disable the synchronization before if they are from external source, or they will reappear when synchronizing again.
You can also export to CSV (and import) the contacts+phone numbers…

  4. The clear data button is inactive so this doesn’t work.

  5. this was really helpful…thanks :)
