I installed lies. I followed all instructions to the letter. On my laptop, the pop-up showed it transferring the upgrade components, but it never showed the download screen on my phone. Then, when it got to 100%, instead of showing the “complete” window, it just closed kies on my laptop and that was the end of it. Tried it a few times. Any suggestions?

I was having trouble with Kies recognizing my phone. I uninstalled/reinstalled and made sure to check usb debugging. Now kies stays connected, but it will not give me any upgrade option. The pop-up does not display and it says there is no update. But I’m on gingerbread.

I hit “OK” on the notice popup (the one that says, “depending on your device, this may take more than 1 minute”), and now it’s just been sitting on the “in progress” screen. It says it’s 100% complete, but it hasn’t shown me the last window you have here. It also still tells me not to disconnect the cable. But my phone is now OFF. So it turned itself off without restarting. I don’t want to turn it on or unplug it in case it’s not finished, but could it still be finished even if your last window didn’t pop up?

I had trouble installing Kies, and then I had trouble getting Kies to read my phone. Why couldn’t they just do an OTA update? Other than those little issues, I got it to update and I am now running ICS 4.0.3 🙂 Thanks for the info!

Thank you so much for this informative article. I couldn’t figure out how to upgrade my phone, I was trying to use Kies air and it obviously wasn’t working (I’m kind of not really tech-y), but this article gave simple, step-by-step instructions that were easy to follow and worked. Thank you so much.

Hi. I did the upgrade. The only step I missed was to turn USB Debugging ON, but it did update fine….the only detail I noticed is that the buttons on the lower part of the phone (settings, home, back, search) wont lit up and cant seem to find options for it. Is there a way to fix that?

After the firmware files finish downloading, KIES tells me the phone has been disconnected and “The application SGH-T898 unexpectedly quit”. However, the cable was never disconnected and my phone goes into the “ODIN MODE – Downloading… Do not turn off target” screen. I left this screen for over 6 hours the first time I got it… nada, nothing. After restarting my phone, uninstalling and reinstalling KIES, AND removing my SIM card, I got the same results with KIES every single time. I am currently running Android 2.3.6, KIES 1.3.0, and Mac OSX 10.5.8.

Let me know if you have any suggestions. Thanks.
